    Beginning Anew

    Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my sketchbook. After agonizing over it for years, I've decided I want to continue on my original goal to become a professional artist. I know it's not a glamorous job that makes you any kind of money (as I have been told my entire life). But it's fulfilling to me and it's something I have a passion for. Anyway, please give me feedback and critiques if possible. I want to improve! The image I have attached here is from my phone. I used this sketching app to make a face for warm up practice.

    Thank you,
    Best wishes,
    Stephanie

    Sketch WIP

This is a drawing from my sketchbook. I'm working on rendering the face better. Any tips? This is how far I've gotten on my own using some reference. Sorry for the low-quality/darkness. I took a picture of it with my phone. haha.

Here is another WIP I have. Please leave me some feedback! I'm not good at drawing hands so I've been practicing a lot.

In the first image I was trying to do some figure studies in pen. By using the pen I'm hoping to increase the quality of my line. I tend to have shaky hands because I'm unsure of what lines to put down. Using the pen forces me to really consider my lines more. In the second image I was using Col-Erase pencils a little. In the third image I combined pens and pencils.

In these images I was studying some references for faces and I was trying to draw with pen and marker that way I wouldn't erase anything.

Nice, I always like sketchbooks that are full of colour and different uses of media and stuff. I feel it's how a sketchbook should look. What I would say though, is if you want to draw faces, try drawing them from different angles a bit. All we've seen so far are straight on.

I like the use of different mediums also.

I would also add to start learning about the proportions of the face. Right now I notice you make your eyes too big. If you search for face proportions on youtube, you'll have a bunch of video's on it. The Gnomon Workshop has a great in depth tutorial on the proportions of the face. If you pay $50 a month you get access to all of their videos.

Also, something to keep in mind as you are studying is what field of art you want to go into. That will help you with your goals.

Thank you for your comment on my sketchbook! I agree, I need to vary it up and stop drawing the face from just the front (that's the easy way so I keep doing it, but I'm not doing myself any favors).

Thank you! I will start learning facial proportions, I have a lot of books (some of them are the Loomis ones) on drawing the head and face. I think I also have a really in depth one, but I can't remember who wrote it. He's a great figure drawing artist though. I can't afford the $50 a month right now, but I think I saw some good videos on Skillshare. Thank you for the comment and advice. I will start working on it!
