    The NECTAR of the STONE

For some time, when my agenda allows me, I apply myself at the bottom of my cave to the making of a graphic novel: The NECTAR Of The STONE.
It is not yet finish, the work is still in progress, but let me show you one of the introductory pages of the book, just to dive into the subject...
Feel free to let me know your impressions.
    Cheers

I like the color palette and the lack of shading, it definitely has an old fashioned 80's look to it which I think is sorely missing from comics today. I also like the texture you've included. It's nice and subtle tough that helps to see the traditional water color look. The big thing that's bothering me is text. It's very hard to read. It looks handwritten, which is nice, but I have to really focus on the letters to read it.

    Vodka0021,
thank you for your nice comment.
How do I approach is quite quite tricky to explain as it is a mixte of instinct and experience. I have no real method but to serve my narration. This one started from the feeling of freedom. I tried different layouts. In this case verticality was obviously appropriate. I played with my camera and my character, and at some point things got fit together. The rest was adjustments and work. Basically, trying is the method.

Thanks for your keen eye and comments. Yes, 80's is without doubt the influence. In my point of view, and apparently at yours also, the 'ligne claire' is one of the most effective and nicest style to tell a graphic novel, pure and easy to read. Well, why to change a recipe that works?
Concerning the text, I kind of agree but there is in it some wilderness that I really like. I took note anyway, I will readjust the confusing parts to make it more readable at the end. Thanks.

    Cheers

Hi guys, here another extract from the introduction of THE NECTAR OF THE STONE, my graphic novel in progress. I hope wou like it.

The good news is that most of the 72 pages are done by now, only a few of them remain to draw. A matter of weeks I suppose.
Keep in touch, keep informed. Thanx. Cheers.

Your compositions flow amazingly. The last post definitely gives a sense of clear montage on the bottom half while the arms in the closeup (2nd panel) give a great "spokewheel" leading into the lower panels. I want to comment on the design of the logo. Putting the first words on the bottom make it very confusing to read. I honestly first thought it was "of the stone, the nectar." I would take a second to zoom out on that logo and consider the first read of someone who has never seen the title before. Obviously the illustration is stellar and its great to hear that you've made such progress!!

Thank you Aaron for your nice comment.
Yes indeed, one my main preoccupations is the flow of the narration. Of course, the idea being to bring the reader into the world of this graphic novel. It is so deconnected from ours that I had to be very careful on every aspect of the composition to make sure that the magic operates.
Concerning the logo, I agree with you, the reading is a bit tricky. I will think again on it. The thing is I like the reading going upwards, and it kind of catch the eye. Thank you for pointing on it since I had a doubt.
