    Mixed breed dog

An in-progress pet painting commission for a pet that has passed away. Limited examples for the dog, attached them below the art. Please feel free to paint over or draw on the image if you want to for the purpose of critique/advice.

I do not envy you this job. The first photograph doesn't even look to me like the same dog as the second and third photographs. Its ears alone seem bigger, it's got different coloring and fur texture. They're wearing different collars in each photo too. These were taken at very different points in the dog's life.

These were all the photos they had of their dog? Geeze, I've got a shit-tone of pictures of my dog. Video too.

You need to make it a smaller dog. The snout, the neck the body, everything is too big except for the ears. When you're doing this you might also try to make the dog look happy. The idea is to capture the soul in a way that photographs can't. If you didn't know the dog or don't have a dog that you love dearly, this will probably be very difficult. Especially given the crappy reference you're stuck with.

I mean, would it be so bad if all anyone remembers about me is that I was a lover of art, of women, and wine? Perhaps I reach too far.
