    238 - Daily Work

    Hi everybody,
My name is Tudor. Nice to meet you !

I made a *contract* with my brother and a friend that I would give either of them 1k$ if I wouldn't work everyday until the 31st of March 2019. (a given set of drawings that is)
    • one portrait study
    • one portrait value study (i'm currently following Craig Mullins's Schoolism course alongside that)
    • one anatomical study (or more that are faster to do; I'm following Scott Eaton's facial anatomy tutorials, also Bammes, Loomis, ModernDayJames)
    • one perspective study (or more that are faster to do; I'm currently doing an exercise from moderndayjames and real life quick sketches amounting to about 100 cubes/day)
    • half an hour of warm-up (my version of John Park's warm-up from Dynamic Sketching)

I'm currently on the 32nd day of the contract; I'll upload one day's cycle so you'll see what that's like and also the drawings that I'm *proudest* of so you'll have what to critique. (The following days I'll only upload the portrait, anatomical and value studies since the rest are pretty straightforward to critique by myself)

    Thanks a lot ^^
I've been to a fine arts school since I was 10, and now I'm following a graphic design bachelor. Even so, I've always been on and off regarding drawing (i wanted at some point to get into programming as well). I only started working this consistently since i started the contract (and that's because I got tired of bragging all the time that i want to become a concept artist but never putting in the work)

One of your head studies reminds me of a girl I met in art school once... a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.....

    Really good studies btw

I hate the fact that I tend to draw the back eye higher than the one in front, and even if I know this I can’t help myself. Any ideas/other suggestions ?

like here? hmm i would really just grab the eye and drag it into place, especially since you work digitally... its great that you notice yourself, it means you know how it SHOULD look. Just correct yourself consistently, it'll stick eventually...
Ahh Romania, rad! Also lol true there are some good dogs out there

hehe nice gif ^^ i know i could do that but i’m trying not to rely on technology really that much (i still do, but i feel it helps me more to work like i would traditionally)
I think the problem is that I have a really bad habit to tilt my head heavily to the right (i’m left handed) and so I have a distorted view of the screen when i’m drawing. Any tips to put that in check (save for gluing thumb tacks to my right shoulder) ?

Welcome and ty for visiting my skechbook. Nice studies there and good luck with you bet I got some ideas for studies self portrait from mirror using one light source and don't forget to apply those as well, then some scott robertson how to draw book have some idea how to do more complex shapes that are symmetrical if you are interested.

I do plan on doing self portraits, would definitely be better than drawing from an image. I went through scott robertson’s book and i know how to mirror complex shapes into perspective (although not on his level to say the least) but right now i’m trying to focus on developing my “intuitive perspective” (i don’t know if that makes sense or not). Even so I will try to do a more technical drawing of the head at some point ^^
    Thank you for your feedback

I actually have an idea how to fix that based on the fact that I sometimes have perspective warping going on when I draw (traditionally) due to the angle of the flat drawing surface vs my eyes. I just prop the sketchbook up on whatever I have around, my portemonnaie, another book... stuff like that. So my idea is: change the angle. If you're using a graphic tablet without a display (like a cintiq or soemthing, just a plain old tablet) maybe attempt to sit at an angle with your graphic tablet still infront of you, maybe in your lap. Turn your body to the right in relation to your screen, then you can't tilt your head to the right or else you can't see the screen properly. You'll have to hold your head in a differnt position that way. Maybe that helps?

i’m using a 10.5” ipad pro. i have an intuos as well but i borrowed it to a friend until the 25th of sept. i think it’s actually because of the small display and the angle it’s at (i don’t recall having that proplem when working on an easel or with the intuos, since it feels weird to tilt your head when you’re standing straight)
thank you for your help though ^^

ooh okay fancy technology causing problems, lol :,) I hope you can correct this by concentrating on not tilting the head too frequently. In the newest sketches there are no real eye alignment problems Also cool prespective and and machine stuff! I like how you do those studies of "what makes up the face" and then draw faces more or less using this approach. It almost looks technical, yet organic.

Dat construction approach to faces! Her eyes are very intense and therefore quite creepy, lol
Also that brush looks exactly like pencil! Or was this done traditionally and then edited digitally?

I really like your construction-based approach for studying faces, the way you do it is sure to make you better very quickly. Also really enjoyed the portrait lighting studies, would like to see how you study anatomy and figures
