    Environment Concept Art
This environment concept art is for an in development indie game, The Mills. Before painting the image, I took inspiration from traditional artists such as the dutch painter, Rembrandt. I wanted to capture a sense of an uncertain destiny for the player.

I created a custom dual brush in Photoshop and started by painting the clouds. I made the custom brush to resemble paint running out in traditional media. Then moved to the grass and character. I started at about midnight, took a short break at 3 AM, then finished by 6 AM. I originally was trying to add robots in the far distance, but it looked horrible. Late at night, the work space around me was quiet with only a humming of a fan. The quiet empty space seem to have made it to my artwork.

Your second post narrowing in on the lower part of the cloud formation is beautiful. Clouds aren't the easiest to do and you've captured them well. The first post is very good as well. I'm just wondering what the lower left curved darkness represents? Is that supposed to be the cloud reflection on the dark water? I was thinking the lighter water should just fade away to the shoreline to eliminate the curve. It's only a suggestion though. Looks good as is.

Oh, took me a while to see what your saying Dar-Wjk. What an interesting observation. I didn't intend for it to be anything in particular except for the horizon to have a fog like effect around hills(darker areas). However, now that you pointed it out if I had render it the way your seeing it, probably it would have given the artwork more depth made with water after the grass area.

Nice painting. Did you use a stippling brush for this?

    Thanks!

In Photoshop, I used the 'dual brush' setting to combine one of the bristle brushes with a chunky one that brakes the strokes - to make it as if paint is running out. See the image below:
