    Fritz's Sketchbook

Hi I'm Aimee Fritz and I love to draw! I'm 19 years old and I want to work hard to one day be a concept artist or illustrator. I used to have an SB on here back when I was 14-15 but it's long gone now and I want to make one again to archive my progress and improve!

Goal is to upload weekly every Saturday or Sunday with posts summarizing what I've been studying or working on:

Hi! love your obvious determination! Nice studies of a good variety of things. And I fee you have a good eye for working off a reference that's very good!
Excuse me commenting on your age, but I wish I had been that focussed on studies at your age hehe
    Looking forwards to seeing more

Hello! It's not Saturday yet, but I'm posting a bit earlier because Saturday and Sunday might get busy.
My main struggle is in painting skin and perspective. I'll work through some of the chapters of Scott Robertson's book next week for sure and more skin studies.

Let me know if the file sizes are too big. I've got a pretty big monitor so I can't tell if my uploads are too large for viewing.

Lookin goood! Love to see how the studies or clothing and anatomy you do translate directly into your imagination doodles. I like how light yes precise you put down your lines, looks like you could easily do this in pen. You're not a fan of the eraser aren't you? I like.
Your traditional works often look a bit more warped than your digital works. Are you looking onto the paper at a 90° angle? If you're using a monitor maybe having the ref and the paitning right next to each other helps a lot with the right shapes and sizes, while looking back and forth between the paper on the desk and the monitor with the ref is tricky. For that I'd recommend trying to find more abstract forms like-> Of the points of the head and elbows for a triangle with x angles and x side lengths-> that's easier to mag onto a paper than the actual body and it prevents warping from having to look back and forth from the ref to the paper. I mean I don't know your set up, I'm going off of mine, but if this applies, it's an idea

mkinggamess: Thank you so much! You are a great help. Your advice helped me out a lot! Traditionally I'd draw on about a 70 degree angle which now that you pointed it out warped out most of my work. Many thanks

Another Saturday marks the 5th week! Not gonna lie, the pace slowed a bit but from next week until probably December I'll be waking up two hours earlier due to university But waking up 2 hours earlier always gives me some time to squeeze some practice in before heading out. Sweet summer, why so short! D:
Dwarf is still unfinished, I'll post it as soon as it gets done. Might start a new piece with this goblin dude or maybe draw some pretty lady or something different.

    I have to work harder!
Dropped a class so I can get more time to practice. I'll see how that goes next week. Sorry there's no personal sketches or fun stuff to look at for this week.

I'm glad the advice made sense! Traditional art is a whole differnt deal that digital, mostly due to real life angles and the ... more 3D ness of processes, but it's a valuable skill to practise, even in this digital age. I need to do more digital :,D Don't overwork yourself, sounds like you're really pushing. Uni is quite taxing so don't grind yourself down too hard pls! It's okay to miss art goals sometimes. Are you studying something art-related?
Some of the poses you do not seem to be satisfied with lack something in the lower body, weight, stability, foot placement or the legs are too slim or short. Love that you break down poses into gestures, blocks, more expressve 3D shapes and then finally the figure drawing with all the details, that's awesome!

Mkinggamess: yeah supposedly it's a "studio art" major but it's more graphic design, art history, ceramics, metalworking, etc. with like very little drawing and painting classes. Some of those classes take up time and I don't like them, but somehow the experiences are helping me grow as an artist. Thank you for your kind words and critique!

So I think instead of the Saturday Artdrop I'm going to call it a 'Sunday Artdrop' to get some more goods in.
Just need hands and axe and chest and stuff. Yeah I've been working on this for a super long time haha.

Jo that's a cool think to study! You'll definitely take something away from every class. ...in the end forming your own art happens kinda in your personal work anyways but they teach you techniques and let you try thing...
but yeah sadly studying is that way, you have to use up SO much time for shit you don't really wanna learn :,) Having that problem hard right now ahaha, but the further the get the more you can specialize I imagine. And the more you can tailor your time to your taste

those 1 2 3 4 5 gestures look really cool I love the one with the frog lol that looks like a real fun motive
drawing people while they also draw? drawception niceee

Thanks mkinggames! Drawception yeah! I agreeeeee on how much time it takes! We'll figure it out eventually! Today's Tuesday, running late for the artweek artdrop. I had to get wisdom teeth surgery and I'm still in the process of recovering.
BUT I keep my promises! I will show everything I did for last week which is pretty slight but it's something. I will always have something to show for every week! Anyways, next week might look pretty bare as well, I have some really strict deadlines for university coming up but I will find time to squeeze in stuff. I'm also going to do Inktober! Not sure about the entire month but for sure, I will have 12 inked drawings done for the month of October. I'll be dropping them in here and there throughout the month.

omg I hope you're well now, haven't checked in in a while! Wisdom teeth surgery x.x Had that a few months ago myself! Looked like a deranged hamster for a week.
I'm excited for your inktober stuff! I'm also doing it but I'm already not on time anymore, because I also had deadlines to catch. But hey it's about the effort, not about the success lol
I really like your figure drawings, jsut gotta say it again lol! Also the skelly is rendered crazy smooth, that's really cool. I admire it when people do that, because I really struggle with smooth gradients in pencil.
