Watercolor is hard medium, as you have to plan ahead, good source for it https://keenewilson.com/page/12220/focus-on-watercolor and some basic techniques https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alq0...jT_fY&index=13 also don't be afraid to use wet on wet as well
Where is your focal point, it needs contrast (value, edge, color etc.) so something stands out, (you can study old masters for it) but I wouldn't touch on it as its really easy to lose freshness (info in first link) I have done it many times and it doesn't feel great to see your hard work just obliterate in your eyes so try to be bit bolder with it you can even limit your colors more if you like, one warm and cool is fine for example burnt sienna and ultramarine. You won't be getting colorful piece with it but you are more focusing on values and color temperature variation, also working from life helps with it more than photos
Hopefully you got sense of this messy critic

Thanks for that. I am still painfully slow when painting so like to take photographs to capture the light. I realize practicing from life will loosen me up and speed me up, though. At the moment I will have to find other subjects to paint from life since it's cold and wet here in New Zealand. You are completely right of cause, it does lack a focal point. Thanks for the links, I'll definitely check them out. Don't mind the messy critic at all. Lots of valuable thoughts.
