    Round #424 Elemental Cave Guardian

    Topic:

    #423 Elemental Cave Guardian!

A powerful, agile, and cunning creature, the Elemental Cave Guardian protects the underground cities from the wretched horrors of the Torgabaz. The Torgabaz are known to sneak into the caves and terrorize the cave dwelling people. This is a two-parter if you're up for the challenge. You're more than welcome to design only the Cave Guardian. However, if you're feeling super creative, you can design th4e Torgabaz as well. Just think about presentation and how you'd want to show the audience both of these creatures.

    Awesome topic Bobby!

@Lege1: Since I'm here I'll give some of my insight on your piece. You've been making some pretty good strides recently so keep it up.

However, try to think of the proportions of the creature. The size of it's head for example looks a bit large for a larger sized creature, if its meant to have a large sized mouth, then think more of it being long rather than more robust, similar to a crocodile. Also it's tail on one hand I feel should either be more stiff and rigid making it more like a mace, or it should be long and flexible like a whip, or something inbetween the two, once again compared to the size of it's body it seems rather small for what I would assume is a major part of the creature's weaponry. It also seems like the tail is positioned in a way to accommodate the size of the image rather than acting as a major part of the composition of the piece. The tail can have a lot of movement and can be used to curve around in such a way that leads the eye back to the major focal areas.
One final thing, widen it's stance. Especially on it's hind legs, it seems very congested the way it's standing. Giving it a wider stance will indicate that it looks like it's ready to attack and also gives it more of a lively appearance rather than what may seem like just a stationary statue.

Still early in the image so there's a lot of opportunity to change things up, so keep it up, mate!
Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

All the little squiggles are supposed to be lightning, but look more like mangy hair or cracks. Haven't drawn much lightning in my life to be honest. Maybe it will work itself out when I do some shading.
On a brighter side, I think the creature's position turned out pretty great. It looks the way I feel in the early morning. Barely awake and about collapse under my own weight since my body doesn't want to function yet. The only thing getting me going are the naggy people around me and the need to go do my job. I hate mornings.

Viktoria: Pretty cool creature and judging by the size of it, it looks like the whole cave came alive, lol. I don't feel this creature looks very agile in any way but maybe when it gets up on those hind legs like an alligator it can really haul ass. Either way cool stuff and looking forward to your development on it =)

Alright, this is going to be it for mine. I really enjoyed working on this piece a lot. Tried to lock down all aspects of image making best I could. Really focused on value and lighting as much as I could on this one. The composition on this was fun as well and it definitely helps to not be lazy and flip the image back and forth. Cheers!

Hi all. I couldn't finish the concept, but I would like to share an extremely crude ideation of what my guardian creature could be like. Fire/Bat/Dog guardian

Hey everybody. Just wanted to let you know I have NOT forgotten about COW! I extended the deadline until this Tuesday but for some reason, I can't edit my original post. I'll try again but I guess it's a glitch.

It's nice to have an extended deadline sometimes, but now always. I think the stress of trying to meet the deadline is good for the artists to really stay on top of their entry.
