Can we maybe get a bit clarification of "indigenous" in this case? Like, nature tribes and such?

They're usually left up to interpretation.
I took indigenous to mean "the (former) locals".
Could be historical work, could be human terraformers blasting a new crater in a previously-occupied alien planet.
Maybe it's a scene of what adventures see at the beginning of a campaign: coming across the remains of a village ravaged by conquistad-orcs.

WIP: value sketch that sort of failed after exporting from Painter.... (Why does painter apply a brown canvas background instead of gray?)

Somehow this ended up as a clown invasion, i just have no idea how to paint such small figures and make them actually look like clowns... good this is an environment and not a character challenge xD

The yellow arrows are sun-directions...or well, at least that's what it's supposed to be

@CharliesComics - Thank you very much

@Edgarej - If the next challenge is gonna be how the "original" people are gonna take back their villages, I'll write "Down with the clown" on a war banner

Well, I flipped the image, I'm epically screwed with time, I lost my tablet pen a few days ago but fortunately turned up again yesterday evening! So finally managed to block in some colors... Not sure it made it better though, but oh well...

It's getting to the point where I've depleted my "time budget" for this piece (still working too slow in digital)... So this will be the final version
