    Terryl Whitlatch & Creature Design

An artist I really like just picked up a bunch of Terryl Whitlatch's creature design books. I've never seen them mentioned around here before, so I was wondering if anyone else had them and what your opinion on them was? I already have James Gurney's books so I don't know if it'll be redundant to pick up these ones, especially as they're a little bit on the pricier side.

she gets mentioned here from time to time. Gurney's books don't really deal with creatures the way Terryls do, that's her thing, she isn't really known for anything else than creatures. Jim is more of an artist, not limited to one aspect of art, he does everything well, portraits, landscapes, environments, creatures and industrial/ tech design.

I have 2 of her books, the one on creature design and the one about animal anatomy, both great for studies and reference. I recommend them if you are into creature design. She also has a class on schoolism about that.
Gurney's book is not the same thing.

I only have Animals: Real and Imagined. Should really look into getting others. I like browsing it from time to time, though I'm a little frustrated by it. It's more an 'art of' or sketch book, and it's fine that way, but I wish it went into more instruction about the anatomy of different species. I guess that's what the Schoolism class is for...

But it's by IMO one of the best creature designers in the biz, so there's that.
    ...which is only my opinion.

Ah yeah, schoolism. Been seeing that thrown around a lot lately too. Anyone happen to have any thoughts on that? It looks good but I’m always kind of skeptical of paid online art courses that basically just give you a video and an assignment.

I found this video showing one of the books on youtube.

As for Schoolism. For me it was invaluable, learned most of what i know about painting and rendering. But i did the annual subscription when it was discounted, like 10$ a month, now its 30$ a month. (still gonna do a month this summer for Craig Mullins class)
