    Lantern bearer

Did this for a competition, didn't win, so any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

I don't quite get what's going on.. cohesively. You have some gal in a action pose and everyone else is just standing around like they are waiting for a bus. Unless the main lady is pointing out where the sandlot baseball went. That and nothing really indicates who she is, the world where all of that "i r a punkz gurrl"fits. A knock off TankGirl with a Coleman lantern?

Speaking of that main character - Everything looks so flat.. lack of shading on the ground, in the clothes/cape, etc.

Also I am not getting where the back leg connects to the body.

Is the blue hair alive, or why would it be all wavy into the rain?

In the rain and mud - why isn't the main character even the remote bit dirty?

For the most part the middle section looks well done, but the 2/3s of it (bleh sky, half finished other characters, etc) really drag it down.
My commentary is a gift to you.

Yeah I was thinking emo tank girl archetype, one of the most obvious problems to me is there seems to be no shadows, at all. I would work on shading fundamentals before doing images as complex as this.

I kind of did the character first, and then added a background around her, which probably wasn't the best approach. I was going for a more harajuku mix, with the enemy being more rock / punk, (see top left of turnaround sheet) but elements crept over. As such I was going to do a combat piece between these two characters, but time constraints meant me just dropping her in a scene solo.

    So, better or worse?
