    Hey edgar. About that Robot Cafe piece, I really like what you seem to be going for here--making an obviously weird context seem perfectly ordinary, like some random photograph taken of some people and 'bots chilling at a cafe. But I gotta be honest, the composition is rather boring. I don't think making the extraordinary seem ordinary means making a dull composition.
    First of all, I would say everything relevant in the picture is just too far away from the camera. The closest thing in the picture is the robot in the middle, and he's still too far away to really make out much detail. If you look at composition videos or tutorials online, you'll often see mention of foreground, middle ground, and background, and here you've got middle ground, the restaurant in the background where nothing discernible is really going on, and then some empty chairs in the foreground. I think you could've at least had a robot sitting with his back to us in the foreground, sipping a cup of liquid metal or some shit (lol I don't know I'm just riffing) to break up the monotony. Maybe have some robot arm on a conveyor belt serving people to show something going on in the background, maybe have characters doing something other than just sitting and staring off to the right and the left haha.
    I don't know man, as much as I like your interpretation of the topic, it just gives me a 'meh' feeling, and I believe this has more to do with your composition and storytelling rather than your values being readable. You've also got all the people clustered right in the center of picture. You could try spreading them out and have them interact more in some way, with different types of body language and such.
    As far as your values, I think they're okay for what they are, but if I'm not mistaken I think you're going for a sunny outdoor scene? If so, my feeling is that it's simply not bright enough overall. It also seems like you're going for patches of light and shadow from the clouds, and I don't think this is reading very well, at least at a glance. I think brightening things up, maybe reducing the darkness of those shadows because they seem way too dark to my eyes, and maybe doing something about the strip of brownish gray on the far left. It just has an overall gray-looking feel to it. But maybe that's what you want, I don't know.
    Jesus, I didn't expect to type this much. Basically, composition is something we all struggle with, myself included. I think next time you should do a bunch more thumbnails and really open up and explore some more interesting ideas, even if they seem well beyond your skill range, and then force yourself to figure it out when it comes time to paint.

    In regards to the trike/bike image, I'd give yourself a little more room on the canvas.
    It took me a while to realize why there was a bike sitting under a canopy.
    It's not yet clear how that outer frame connects to the bike, and whether the wall in the back is supposed to be a sidecar or just a separate vehicle nearby.
    More canvas space would allow for more information on the subject.

    @rau... I got that boring comment before from mikecoc in this thread. He suggested I do thumbnails for the piece. I don't know why I didn't follow through with this suggestion. I did thumbnails prior to his comment, and chosen that particular composition cause I felt it was best. But I also know that when I read his comment, a few new ideas were percolating in my head. I don't know why I didn't just do more thumbnails for the new ideas. It was either I stopped working on the piece right around the time I read his comment and forgot about what he said when I started working on the piece again or this particular line in his comment
    I'm not sure if you detailing will fix it, but as a thumbnail, it's missing the things I said (attention gettting quality).
    prompted me to continue. I'm not sure. All I know is that I continued and decided to finish the piece;

    In hindsight though, I'm actually kind of glad I kept going through with the painting. It ended up becoming a huge value study for me, which I brought up as something I was worried about. Trying to balance that dark niche with the shadows cast by trees (or clouds like you put it) became a challenge for me. As for a boring composition, I actually kind of agree. It is boring. But as a technical study, I'm very happy with it.

    Updates on other pieces;

    And I'm also struggling with this master study by Freund Fritz I think? I can not find information on this painting. I just found the image in the master study section;

    Decided to slow down on this tricycle illustration and take my time to do a good sketch. It's been awhile since I have done that...

    So I decided to work on the "Dad's Home" illustration some more because I got a few critiques on it being too dark and/or hard to read. I lighten up the dad a little bit and worked on the background behind the girl to make her pop out more. I'm close to being done with it I think... just one or two more detail pass. Hopefully no more than that.

    As for the tricycle illustration...

    I'm stuck with this piece. I decided that instead of illustrating a traditional pinoy tricycle I figured I could be a little adventurous with the design. I settled for a baroque inspired design... unfortunately none of my sketches had me fully convinced yet;

    Your digital art is awesome!

    Is it just me or are you running a pink/red-ish light-theme in a lot of your original work?

    Yes, I've been in pink mood lately. Ten years ago it was all orange... then it turned green. Now it's just pink.

    Wow just looked at the mermaid in post 15 and I can't believe I haven't noticed that earlier! The design is really cool and the pose and lighting are just wonderful. Are you going to finish that one?

    Ohhh Trixstar, I just realized I'm punk pink... or I could also be puke pink. It doesn't matter which, so long as there is alliteration involved then the world is fine.
