How do you find inspiration to design your mechs?

It seems like every time I draw mechs, I draw squares on squares or forms that don't seem to make sense. When it comes to joints and details I feel as though I have no ideas!

So I was wondering, where do people who draw mechs/cyborgs/cyber vehicles get their inspiration? How do you know what details to add (tubing, wires, rivets, etc.) or how to draw a joint? Are there websites, or books, or YouTubers that you've found particularly helpful? How do you start your drawings? What things in real life do you look at? What artists have been helpful?

Havent drawn mechs before but hopefully this helps

Edit: I think what do you reference can impact your designs much just keep your eyes open, if something interest you let say WWII tanks then study it, use it, experiment with it. Also dont forget about foundations those are really important

Thank you very much for the video! I used to watch this artist app the time (I even have his book) but never saw this one before.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by foundations? Of the actual machinary or perspective?
