    Direction and scale

This is something that I personaly struggle with the most, that is how to know the direction and scale in my drawing.

How do you know when a line is perpendicular to another in 3d space? Given which way the front is, how do you know which way is right/left,up/down? Given a unit of length in one direction, how do you know the length of the same unit in another direction, despite foreshortening?

I realize practice makes perfect but you know what makes perfect faster? Knowing how to practice. So any tips are more than welcome

With more advanced perspective, and later by approximation, I guess, as otherwise it takes too long.

If you know how to figure out direction and scale in every possible scenario, then you basically know all of the linear perspective, so that's too broad a question.
