    Round #406 Five-Eyed Grounder Pounder

    Topic:
    #406 Five-Eyed Grounder Pounder!

In the remote jungles of South America, a team of land surveyors have stumbled across ancient ruins overgrown with thick foliage and that have been booby-trapped to the extreme. Luckily, nobody was hurt and they were able to enter a temple not seen by humans in over 3,000 years. Just as they enter, strange sounds erupt from the shadows of a deep passageway. These sounds slowly grow to loud, pounding sounds followed by a menacing, guttural growl. The tomb suddenly closes, trapping the land surveyors inside. With the light of their flashlights, they see eyes scampering towards them from the passageway. The local tribes warned them of the beast known as the P'ohmbedar which means; Grounder Pounder!

This is a cool topic and I almost missed this thread at a glance on the COW page before the forum. Why doesn't the latest COW forum go to the top of the list? I hope that's not asking something like why's water wet? lol Either way not a big deal, just wanted to point that out.

@Lege - Whichever thread you comment on last goes to the top. It always has. The WIPS threads aren't locked anymore so you might see older one's beginning with #401 at the top.

Nice Lege1! You inspired me to use that technique for my thumbnails as well. Mine are below, but I wanted to give some comments on some of yours. I think I dig one and four the most, for me those two are the best defined spatially, like I get a sense of the whole body. I also like how they're kinda rocky and asymmetrical, like they grew from the ground or the sea. That said I like the idea of a biped like you have in two, and the smashers on six are no joke! Maybe I'm looking too far into some rough sketches but I look forward to seeing what you come up with. On that note, here's my take on the theme:

at second glance, 1, 4 and 5 are p similar, I'll have to bust out another round tomorrow.

battrry: Thanks man and same! Glad I could be of inspiration with the work flow. Thanks on the feed back on my creatures and I like one as well and most likely will pursue that one. The asymmetry is cool but I have to work on my symmetry more. The biped is indeed cool and 6 is beast; I'll try to do as many as I can. Can't ever look too far into this stuff man, the whole idea I think is to have a deeper look at things. Glad you like the thumbnails I have though.
In regards to your thumbnails; 3 is the one that stands out the most to me. Something about it that reminds me of like a tribal or primative species, kinda like predator; something alien and long ago. Could have a lot of potential to render that one out in my opinion. I would pursue doing a few more as well and see what you're feeling. Looking forward to seeing how you move forward with your entrees as well.

really nice job with the silhouettes guys, I really need to start with this method more often. Lege1 number 3 because it looks suitably sinister and number 6 does it for me cause it looks like a powerful beast capable of running at you and pounding you and the same time with those protrusions
and Battrry for your selection it 3 and 5 looks like it could really bash the ground with its nose end and 3 has a great head.

I just sketched out the first idea I could think of that fit the bill and went with that..it had to be big and strong armed to bash the ground so I went with a fist shape.

The body here is suppose to represent a hand, the bunched up wrinkled skin on the palm is shown on the belly , the back of the hand and hence the creatures back is little hairy, also there are 5 bony protrusions to the front these inspired by the knuckles....the only thing was I got so wrapped up in following this thought that I named it the Five Eyed Fister---which sound like a dodgy alien porno star. So cover your holes just in case, while I present my entry ....

I'm little late and I didn't fully understand the brief, but what I gathered from other's submissions it's supposed to be a creature able to smash through stuff. Here's my quick thumbnails using the same technique as Lege and battrry. I'll see if I could finish one of these on time:

@Anton - Nice, Anton! Technically, nobody can be late anymore because I don't close the threads after the deadline. After this week, I will be taking away deadlines.

@Anton - B really intrigues me. I like the body proportions and that head is some kind of crazy.

Scorge piece is so epic on this one. I think I may have to venture back in here and take another stab at this. I can't remember why I abandoned it in the first place, probably work; topic here is super cool.
