Angry Issue converting from Values to Colored Image and painting from imagination

Hello everyone! I am having major issues converting an image painted in values to colors. As I start to paint the layer with color mode ON, it gives a very mucky look. I think that if we dont even have the feel of the whole image correct it is not gonna come out as you wanted it to be. Also would it be too difficult to start with color directly.
The second thing is when you draw from imagination. One need to get the whole color or feel of the image right. What if there is a very very rough idea in your brain. How would you be able to know how to fill the loopholes? Iam gonna attach the image as how I started. This is so frustrating ><

Also I believe that I have 'sudied' yes! Studied art alot and havent practiced that much. What would help me the most in painting from the imagination? What practices?

Have you tried master studies or painted from life? You can check your values by using black and white layer if you paint straight with colors If you have cool light- warm shadows, warm light- cool shadows look these things when studying and always apply what you have studied

It's better to learn to see value as a component of color along with hue and chroma. That way you learn to see color properly and learn to see how the components affect each other and how you can emphasize or deemphasize each to have more impact in your paintings. Most people who separate value out end up with colored drawings and miss out on learning the more advanced aspects of painting. That's fine if it's your goal but there is more to painting; brush calligraphy, paint thickness, edgework, texture effects, etc.
