'On The Desert' – Jean-Léon Gérôme

    Hi guys.
My first one. I ran out of time I'm afraid. 65mins. Lesson learnt!

I found there was a lot more efficiency in use than i originally spotted, with minimal detail in the background.
He used some nice high contrast techniques for greater emphasis around the guy with white turban. I only spotted this later on.
He also made the legs of the white horse bigger than the horse in front, which has the effect of combining the foreground group into one unit, separating it from the background, and effectively adding greater depth.
Some lovely rhythm with the legs of the horses, variety in the shapes and outfits of each character, and continuity in the way he has drawn the ground plane and shadows which reinforce the direction of travel.

Really enjoyed that, but a tough one to do in an hour.
