    Sculpting clay question

    Hi people!

I want to begin sculpting monsters, characters and all of those amazing things that exists. But the problem is i dont know what CLAY to use? It would be verry expensive to deliver "monsterclay" from USA to Czech Republic.

Do you also know any shop with supplies for this craft? Some instruments or the skeleton systems, artificial eyes or so?: )

Thank you so much for any tips !: )

Are there no distributors in your country? In the Netherlands it is possible to buy monster clay from a dealer, maybe there is a dealer in the Czech Republic too.

If you can't find monster clay, I'd recommend Super Sculpey Firm. It's being used by many miniature sculptors and fantasy artists. It's polymer clay and needs to be baked to cure. For a clay that stays soft and can't be cured, you could use something like NSP. It's a non-sulfur modeling clay, so it can be used to make molds and then re-used for a new project.

As for the skeleton systems and artificial eyes etc: You make those yourself. The eyes are part of the sculpt, you sculpt those just like any other feature. The armature is created with wire. Of course it is possible to find some pre-made armatures, but they are expensive and will definitely limit your creativity, so best thing is simply to learn to do them yourself. You can find vids of how to do this on youtube.

i got in on cgcookie's sculptbox a while back and have been humming along pretty well. Added a few things here or there like different size eyes and more wire for armatures, but a good buy in.

Just know that monster clay isn't for permanent display. Typically it is for detailed modeling then you cast it in silicon or a mold.
My commentary is a gift to you.
