    C.H.O.W 432 Post-apocalyptic Roller Derby

    C.H.O.W 432 Post-apocalyptic Roller Derby

    Character of the Week #432
    Post apocalyptic Roller derby
    Deadline - Sunday, July 30th 10PM GMT

Many generations have passed since the apocalypse, and much of the pre war world and all its ways
have been forgotten by people that inhabit today's wasteland.

Several great bandit kingdoms emerged from the ruins of the old world, and wars were common between them. One day explorers found a buried roller derby track. Basic rules were found and where there were gaps in their knowledge new ones were added (violent ones mainly). With dwindling resources wars between the kingdoms could not continue so the bandit kings decreed all disagreements would be settled by roller derby as a replacement for war.

To a pre war eye these games look like a road chase scene from Mad Max but without any cars. With little to no rules and everything to play for many players have become creative with their gear. Some have maces swinging from shoulderpads, motorised caterpillar tracks on each foot and most have some spikes for ramming. One player has a midget riding on his back manning a small harpoon launcher.

    • Male or Female human (may be mutants)
    • Some form of wheels attached to feet. (may be motorised)
    • Armour & pads. May be spiky or otherwise lethal.
    • Genre is post apocalypse.

    The Rules:

    - FINALS: Must post in finals thread before the deadline
    - KNEES UP: Must show at least 3/4 of the character, from at least the knees up.
    - FRONT VIEW: Must be able to see the front of design. No back views without a front.
    - WIPS: Must show at least 2 work in progress shots with final entry.
    - READABLE: Design must be readable, as in a 3D model could be made from your image.
    - ONLY ONE: May only submit one entry. No multiple submissions.
    - 3D: Must be originally created models, excluding primitives. 3D paint-overs permitted. If you choose to use 3D in whole or in part you must show a screenshot of the model in 3D software with final entry.
    - UNACCEPTABLE: These are not permitted: Photos, photo paint-overs, photobashing, pre-made or purchased 3D
    models
    , rushed works/ rough sketches.
    - NEW USERS: Must submit entries by 6pm GMT on due date, due to conceptart.org's moderation process:

    - DESIGN: Design your character for the brief, not your personal fetish. Nudes without some design are not permitted.
    - READ: Read through the threads; there may be answers to your questions already posted.
    - FUN: Have fun!

I pretty much never finish in time and have never actually posted anything before, but in an attempt to get things going I present to you all...

    Princess

Princess is the daughter of an influential clan leader. When her father is away on business she tends to abuse her powers a bit and live out her fantasies. Considering she has the mind of a 10 year old this might get her in trouble every now and then. In the past she played sadistic games with her underlings, ordered her guards to kill or capture small independent clans and went on an epic shopping spree (one being a bit more innocent than the others, I guess).

And in this case that means her representing her clan in the Roller Derby 9000. While picking out a suitable suit of armor she combined her love for the classic movie princesses and some of her favourite children shows, based on the remnants from previous civilizations her clan acquired though the years. She uses a giant magnet as a weapon, although we'll have to wait and see how effective this will turn out to be.

Update 7/24 - Gotta get back to my studies. I know some (plenty) stuff is off (ignoring the fact that the rendering is at different stages for different parts), but I'm not really sure how to fix it. I'll look for some references, for starters.

When's the finals thread coming up for this? Would you guys running these contests consider putting up the finals thread much earlier instead of waiting till last day before the deadline? I'm pretty sure that would work better since if you leave just like 24 hour or less window to actually post the entry people might miss it, forget about it or just not be able to upload the thing in that tight timeframe. I'd much prefer being able to just post my entry as soon as it's completed and be done instead of having to wait for the thread to come up.

Not sure I'll have time to post something completely finished, but I did want to put up something for this.

This is Aetna, a Veteran pivot for her clan's team. In her years playing she's lost some teeth, a couple fingers, and become the proud owner of a nice cheek scar. Biggest points of her design are shielding along the side of her skates to avoid other skaters attacking her wheels, scaled armor alongside her arms, hips, and neck. Aetna specializes in close-quarters combat, and her particular specialty is crouching down for speed and using her fist-mounted blades to aim for vital points of enemy skaters while passing.
