    EOW 296: The Architect's Regret

    EOW 296: The Architect's Regret

    EOW 296: The Architect's Regret

Architects plan, design, and review the construction of buildings. Their decisions affect public safety, and a mistake in the design of a structure can result in some negative consequences for the people living inside, whether it causes a hazard to their health or it makes looking at a building just plain awkward. This week, design a piece of architecture with a major defect, one that the architect who designed it will regret forever and ever (or until he fixes it if that's possible). Band-aids won't work this time.

    Requirements:
-The architect is not required but it would be funny if we could see the back of the architect figure looking in alarm at the blunder he's made.
-There has to be a defectively designed building. It could be a big error or a small error, but it has to be fairly noticeable.
-Everything else about this topic is open to interpretation, so be creative and challenge yourself, skilled environmental artists.

    Deadline: July 19, 2017.

    Good luck!

Have you guys heard about what happened here in the UK with the Grenfell tower disaster? A fitting time to highlight the importance of safe building design. At the moment all towers in the uk with cladding are being tested (and some schools / hospitals / hotels) for fire safety and currently I think it's a 100% failure rate.

I will try to add something, even if only a sketch.

Hey Dayle, no I hadn't heard about it until now but that is terribly sad news. Thank you for bringing this to attention.

Yeah it was very sad and disturbing to see.

Here is an idea, post industrial architectural decay. Based on some texture overlays and some google street view caps. I may try and make it happier by adding signs of nature and recovery but leave the buildings as abandoned structures.

Dayle, loving the bleak atmosphere so far. Also looks like a convincing layout for an outdoor factory or manufacturing plant setting.
