    Creature Concept

    I sketched this up during the teaching semester in class for one of my students. Now its time to take it to the next level. I will post my progress here:

    So, this is very early on in the painting, a lot still to do really, just a sketch right now. I am also trying some wild color for fun.The end product will be more subdued I suspect Name:  ColorWild_01.jpg

    How do you use reference? I can barely recognise some of those muscle groups from vertebrate anatomy in general (which might not be the worst indictment ever, but still) let alone from the accompanying horse diagrams. Where are the origins and insertions of some of those shoulder muscles? What's the horizontal 'rod' across the hindquarter?
    I mean, perhaps you have it all worked out, and tip of the hat for using anatomical references; but I'm left with the vague impression that you gathered together all these muscles to construct your creature, and forgot the skeleton to hang them on.
    ...which is only my opinion.
