Thanks stonec, that's something I certainly struggle with and feel a little lost when I try!

More value studies both from reference. These take about 40 mins. Also started working on the trapezius (still just following Michael Hamptons book).

I don't have a camera anymore, so I have not been able to keep uploading but I have been drawing still! I've been doing a lot of head drawing. I've been working on features of the face (including the eyes and mouth, I may post that work later) and was really struggling with the nose. I feel like it takes so many shapes and forms on different people and at different angles that I can't always think through the underlying structure. More importantly, I realized after several pages of drawing noses, that I was still really bad at getting the general lay-in of the face and often my proportions are super off. So I decided to stop drawing features (was about to start drawing ears) and decided to go back and work on my ability to get the initial lay in correct and review the bone structure of the skull. I think i'll continue to do this for a while longer until I feel I can do "gesture" like layins of the head.

Also I'm working on painting and decided to use the head drawing to practice some value studies. I'm really trying to understand and better see the difference between dark and bright and light and shadow. Still using gouache for these.

I also have a sheet of my figure drawing progress which I've also been doing along side head drawing, so I'll post that in a bit too.
