    C.O.W. #380-Kaiju(Pacific Rim)-WIPS thread

    C.O.W. #380-Kaiju(Pacific Rim)-WIPS thread

    Round #380 Kaiju (Pacific Rim)

    Topic:
    #380 Kaiju (Pacific Rim)

Hey folks! It's time to unleash the fury for this next round. Whether you have seen Pacific Rim or not, the film is full of gigantic monstrosities from the Anteverse. For this challenge, I want you to create your very own Kaiju! BUT, there is one rule to follow and that is you absolutely CANNOT use the existing Kaiju creatures from the film. They are:

    Reckoner
    Knifehead
    Axehead
    Bladehead
    Onibaba
    Leatherback
    Otachi
    Scunner
    Slattern

When creating these huge beasts, there are things to keep in mind. First is scale. The largest Kaiju in Pacific Rim is Slattern weighing in at 6,750 tons and having a height of 596 ft. When creating your beasts, you must display their height and weight and they need to have one deadly function. Spitting acid, shooting claws etc. HAVE FUN!

    Deadline:
    Monday May 1st, 2017 10:00PM EST. SHARP!!!

    Finals go here: =http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php/327738-C-O-W-380-Kaiju(Pacific-Rim)-FINALS

Gonna try to see if I can get a bit further with this one. I'm out of town again this weekend so we'll see.

I'm gonna try to contribute something for this round because who doesn't love giant city stomping monsters?

During my time as moderator I've also hosted a topic focused on Kaiju as well, thought I'd share since it can make for decent source material...and a good way to get people's minds working...

@Rob - Dude THANK YOU for showing that old thread. I was actually looking through the old ones to make sure I wasn't repeating an old topic. Drawing Kaiju is pretty popular so hopefully we're not double-dipping.

Bobby: No problem! Personally, I don't see a problem if some of the topics are rehashed from old ones (even if unintentional), especially for more vague briefs like this one since there's so much that can be done with it...
As long as there's a good variety to keep things interesting!

But you're the boss now! Do what you think is best!

scorge: Epic work so far mate! Very Pacific Rim-y Definitely liking the Category VI beastie so far...

Hey dudes! I'm intending to take a break for a bit (hard though it is to resist!) Will be cool to see what you come up with though.

I did look into the subject a bit and came across this chart which I thought might be helpful -

    Good luck!

edit: The chart scaled down when I uploaded it - there is a much bigger version out there somewhere if you search for it!

Been sketching this strange fella. Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate this round because I'll be out of town from Friday through Sunday evening. But I can't wait to see everyone's designs. The WIPS are already looking sweet. I'll try and bust out this grayscale as fast as I can so I can at least show something.

Alright we're back home and now I can concentrate on the latest COW round. I see some really cool designs so far.

@Lege 1 - I would actually go much, much larger on the design. Right now, it doesn't seem like the creature would do much damage size-wise.

@Fabianguiza - That's a pretty cool looking head but I think you need to show more of the creature. I'm interested in the torso, legs, and tail.

@BobbyRebholz: Thanks a million man, I was feeling that way too. I am going to introduce a new concept and see if I get it finished for finals.

Thought I would do this over a long weekend, but ended up painting this all in one session, so sorry for the lack of wips / participation in the thread.

I've been getting some helpful comments about saturation and shading in my sketchbook, which I hope I have applied here.
