    Interesting to see your tone study progress. I just barely started learning to paint too. So much new information, so much stuff to try to pay attention to as you're painting. Seems like such a delicate balancing act.

    asaro's abstraction (as well as reilly's and loomis') are really good and sharing stuff with them is kinda unavoidable xD
    but it's mostly based off of a studies from Van Dyke, Jiacomo Tintoretto, and Velazquez. on the top of this page, you can see a couple of master studies from them, that's when i was noticing these adn trying to find where did they use them

    it is indeed, a balancing art xD try and tackle them one by one, you wont kill the giant in one strike

    wow thanks for clarifying, this actually sounds fun! so you re basically practicing render from imagination and you can check if you re correct from the ref. pretty smart, feels like this suits me! i only like drawing from imagination and do lighting practice all the time but never thought of having a ref to check lol. i'll try your exercise cuz faces are something that gives me a hard time too, i haven't studied them at all. your construction is sick btw, and those one-shot lines make me nervous. looks like you really know your planes, did you make them up from multiple models or is there some specific manequin you re using?

    yep, it's al ot of fun xD
    and also yes, i made it out of some mannequins and a lot of studies... its not that hard, you just try and do a couple of heads focusing on construction and these things start to pop
    good luck mate! ill keep an eye out for those studies, cause i have a feelin they're gonna be awesome!

    Wow, very nice improvement for such a short amount of time and a great amount of work too! Your rendering on these faces and the believability have improved so much. Seeing your progress and approach got me really excited to start learning about facial planes and rendering them after I finish my anatomy studies, really awesome work. For some reason I really like the portrait render from post #95, just almost feels like it's a 3D model. Your work is looking very promising, you got yourself a subscriber. I look forward to seeing more.

    wow this is awesome bullet-bro! nice to see the steps too! there's one thing that i ve been noticing in your studies but wasn't sure if its maybe intentional and since the light and construction is always spot on, i wouldn't point out such a detail. i felt like your stuff lack the strong tiny dark accents in creases and occlusion areas. your habit of avoiding black and building values slowly is great, and i think that up to the state you leave your pieces they re worked just perfect, but they would instantly pop more if you'd add just a couple of black accents as a final step to your process. thought i'd mention now cause i ve done the same study too and what i noted to myself as i did it was that he does all this high key of subtle tone of kinda ambient kinda distant light and then he punches everything with those tiny dark spots. try adding some black yourself without even looking at the ref, just go at the places where the forms almost touch each other and they create very occluded little spaces, and you'll see how much it will pop! in my opinion its literally the only thing thats missing, and it feels real good to add these at the end

    why are you demotivated? you propably just need a break, im going through this now myself. i finally have free time now to study but its sooo hard to discipline myself now that i also have a chance to actually just rest a bit. sometimes its better to take a real break for a couple of days and then you ll feel bad for not doing anything and be motivated to work hard again

    im just affraid of black xD really its hard for me to go there, i will try ;n;

    and well, mainly demotivated because i dont have a very strong will power xD so i tend to quit as soon as i've spent a lot of time on something, a habit i REALLY want to break, so i just have to power through it, and it will go away, hopefully xD

    thanks, i did take a break yesterday to play some games, and it worked
    hope you get better as well, discipline is the hardest part

    anyway, applyin' the studies on a little critique on another forum xD

    such a sense of 3D form o.O looks almost like a 3D model, sick to have skills like that! One little thing, I don't know if it's just me but her hand seems a bit big compared to her face but maybe that's on purpose, but the gesture is awesome in these hope you post more often and get your motivation mojo back
