dawn of the dead is awesome!

dude...dawn of the dead has the best special effects i've ever seen!
the blood comes off so realistically when you shoot teh zombies.
some of them were losing limbs and actually looked like they had no limbs!
veins and bones showing! magnificent! this movie just has the best looking gore effects ever seen in a movie! this kinda makes me want to creat my own gory zombie movies...

    The original is better.

Zombies don't run. They come limping in with millions and don't ever.. ever stop.

I agree! The original Dawn of the Dead is way better. Zombies are re-animated dead people. Dead people are full of rigamortis, so their joints are really stiff.. thus zombies should move really slowly. (ok -- I am a big zombie geek ).

Fresh running zombie mobs are infinately more frightening.

This new DawnOfTheDead tramples Romero's attemts in every respect... Don't let purist-nostalgia cloud your judgement of how amazing the new installment is (I had a hard time with this as well...)

I personally can't wait for the next 2 follow-ups ... This new generation of zombie movies (28days, DOD) fuckin' rocks!

I kind of liked the movies logic however... newly dead zombies don't have rigor mortis, like the main girl's husband at the beginning. After all the zombies have been dead a few days, they shuffle like normally. I enjoyed the new movie as a standalone endeavor... certainly the original is a more enduring classic, but I personally don't even bother connecting the two.

yeah, zombies are much more frightening when they are running.
you see... slow, lazy, helpless, zombies are easy and boring.
fast zombies are much more challenging and scary.

I personally didn't much like the fast paced zombies from Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later. Still, Dawn of the Dead was an excellent horror movie

    Slow zombies rule.

By the way, if you are a true Zombie fan (you walk down the street and see buildings that would be good for fending zombies off!), the Official Zombie Survival guide is an excellent book. It is written with a serious tone, talking of "true" events of the zombification virus spreading. Really a great read. Also, the reason they give for the zombie slowness is the lack of dexterity in the brain, as when the virus kills it and takes over, it only takes over primitive instincts and animates the body only with the most basic of functions.

Take mos667's suggestion, the "Zombie Survival Guide" is an awesome read!

It's great how it convinces you (through actual 'science'/'researcy') that a bicycle is the greatest mode of transportation... it makes sense when you're reading it

My old appartment in Georgia was AMAZINGLY zombie-proof... On the second level, barely any windows with a blockable courtyard between and many many roof exits ... also had metal beams on windows and doors.
My new appartment here in chicago doesn't come close... completely on the ground level with windows in every room
    ... I'm so fucked...

Oh...and I'm a huge Romero Fan (Knight Riders, and Creepshow are my favs) ... he created the zombie genre, but genre's evolve... and today zombie movies are amazing.

Don't forget Sammy, what can keep things OUT can also keep you IN. So in case of natural disaster or zombie infestation, you would've been zombie food

If you want to make fast zombies, don't call em zombies. Do it like 28 days later.
True, watching the original now makes it look bad (zombies in all flavours! blue, red, green! you name it), but the idea itself of slow moving dead people is still way cool. One zombie is nothing, it's slow, weak, stupid. But the frightening thing is there are thousands upon thousands of those freaks and they just keep comming. You just can't kill enough of them.

Slow zombies = brooding tension buildup
Fast zombies = 'oh fuck it's comming right at us'-shock moments.

dawn is great, and yes zombies can run.

alive one seconds, then dead the next, in that seconds all your muscles arent going to go limp. more like a rabid dog.

now if your damaged or rotting, then yea you drag and limp.

    best zombie movie ever.

I love the original, but its apples and oranges.

the only thing i was disappointed in, one itsy bitsy thing, was the zombie baby. other than that the sounds track, effects, and the characters. the characters were great. the main security guard was the shit.

one of my top 5 movies of 04

    good thing to say.
indeed this is the best zombie movie i've ever seen.

i still liked the EVIL DEAD trilogy better, that is so funny and a little scary.
ash is so cool in the second and third movie. he still is wimpy sometimes, but that is what makes the movie funny. bruce campbell in my opinion should show up in more movies. he's a great actor. are there any other movies he's in?
yeah, so i really like evil dead 1, 2 and army of darkness. all a great joy to watch.

yea heard about the evildead/13th/freddie crossover.

great idea I hope they do it. the bigest cheese horror flicks of the 80s and 90s, it would be epic.

i hope they do it, or ARE doing it.

hyper zombies don't count as real zombies.
there will never be any evil dead crossover...Sam Raimi is too smart for that to happen.
real upcoming zombie movies can be found
    here
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418819/ Land of the Dead
    here
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0391076/ Diamond Dead
    here
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411805/ Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis
    &
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411806/ Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave from the Grave

if any of these movies have hyper zombies
    i stand corrected

What are you guys talking about?

A "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash" would fuckin' kick ass!

I trust that Sam and Bruce would make it funny and gorry as hell ... it's not like any of the Freddies or Jasons have been serious legacies.

Sam Ramie is the king of cheese/toung&cheeck that's why the spiderman's kicked so much ass.

EXACTLY! How can you not see the absolute genius in that?

As cool as the new Dawn of the Dead was, Shaun of the Dead gets my vote for zombie movie of the year.

Shuan of the Dead was a lot of fun, nothing like a Zombie beatdown that ryhthmicly syncs to an annoying bar jukebox.

I heard that Sam Rami liked the crossover idea, but he is to busy with Spider-man to work on the movie, and he would want pretty much full control over what happens to Ash.

I thought fast zombies made sense, if they are fresh and can't feel pain then they could run and hunt until their muscles tore away, hence slow zombies. But I dig the hoards of slow zombies too, I like what Romero was saying with his flicks.
"Full price for gum? That dog won't hunt Monsignor!"

Haha, nice. According to IMDB, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have cameos in Romero's new movie.
