It's an ok concept (for some reason it conjures images of superman cartoons in my head). But. First off, this flame doesn't llok much like flame, its hard to paint, i know, so try looking at the real thing some more. The figure, although engulfed by flames, is not lit. Also the figure is tilted to the right so it looks like that he, whoever it is, is drunk. The figure itself is boring, aside from the horns there are now distignuishing details of any kind, or even features. And finally it looks like you rushed doing the foreground. It's got something going, just go back to it and rework some of your problems, and see if you can improve it.

First of all thank you for noticing and taking your time writing something! The concept of the picture is kinda cliché, and somewhat cartoonish. I'm gonna try to work more with the flames, about the lightning of the character was made in purpose too dark.. (the devil doesn't reflect light as easy?) best excuse i could come up with.. maybe it looks weird. But I wanted him to be darker then expected (surrounded by fire) .. about the characters position i see what you mean!

thank you once again!! I feel a litle bit less alienated(is that a word?) from this forum now. ..

This one looks a bit less soft
and it has a better apeal,
    It needs more definition and
    work on the anatomy,
It has some good movement on the flames
but the compostion is to axial,
Try not to place the main caracter on the center
that makes for a static composition, the colum of
smoke-fire is to cilidric and uniform the smoke and fire is
far more irregular try looking for bonefire refs
to see how fire works and how the wood inside
    gets affected by the fire

    bonefire

that can help you regarding the ligthing on the daemon

I really think you need to make simpler excerises to get your basics
really rigth you will see a lot of improvent in your work if you do that
    trusts me

you migth wanna check this link:

    see ya keep it up!!!
