Carnifex- I like the pose you have. It's simple but gives your guy some personality. I think the feet, and the shoulder pad animals are my favorite part of the picture. Is that an elephant and a dinosaur? Heh. One thing I think could add to the overall design would be to add another layer over the middle striped armor that connects to the pointed shoulder pads. I think if you kept that there, and added another bit of armor it would help the design a lot.

Also I think the dude would like a sheath for his sword, I doubt he wants to carry it around all the time.

Mine- I guess I should of cleaned up the art a bit, and I really don't like the front dress part, nor the rest of the legs, I kind of rushed those. I also think there should of been more to the helmet.

    Thanks for the challenge man.

you're welcome and thanx for the challenge too. was pretty fun.
about your picture: i think the weakest point is that you cropped the image very bad...you can hardly see the arms(most of all the hands) and it's missing legs too.
yeah and probably a cleaner version.
other than that it's pretty much what everyone would think of when thinking of a modern day samurai. probably without gasmask, but otherwise pretty close.

could you maybe make a quick overpaint to illustrate what you're thinking of regarding the connection thingy between the shoulder pads etc.
    thank you.

anyone else to post his opinion on our pictures?

    good fight.

I did a quick paint over to try and explain, and I also found a good picture to further explain what I mean.

The main reason Samurai armor worked against melee and projectile weapons was because it had multiple layers. And each layer would go in different directions (i.e. first layer goes vertical and second layer goes horizantal.

Look at the chest plate. You can see a golden type underplate, and the the horizantal bead kind of things. The best example would be on the shoulder pads on this picture. I can see at least three different layers.

I cropped my picture bad because the entire left side of my scan was black, and I was rushing it on the net. Heh.

I like what both of you have done i mean to me Carnifex yours wasnt really modern day to day, but neither was Hugeharhar's his is more Futureistic and yes har's needs some clean up in the ideas of symetry and such but Carnifex's is just kinda blank to me its kinda like lack detail, i mean to me its kinda ...flat , but thats to be expected with the time limit... both are very good in my opinion....
