    I like the way you're working with silhouettes & values before getting wrapped up in details (which I always tend to do). My favorite one so far is the one in the lower left, although they all have possibilities...

    I am notorious for jumping into artwork without planning, then overworking the details. I really need to change this bad habit. It's why I'm so slow with finishing my pieces.

    As for your suggestion about the lower left Alembic, since you're the first one to suggest a choice, I'm going to go with that... unless anyone else has a rebuttal.

    Edgarej, I like the design of the structure on top of the big rock, it looks iconic. Looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

    I've been playing with Alchemy for the past day or so, which is great for coming up with random silhouettes:

    Hopefully I'll have time to get on board with this round...

    Alembic... Krita has a feature for coming up with random shapes. It's what I used to come up with the sketches above. Alchemy sounds so cool though. The site says you can come up with shapes by using voice? That's pretty unique.

    Not familiar with Krita, I'll have to check it out. Alchemy is free and, like I said, great for generating shapes and silhouettes; I've never played with the microphone functions but can only imagine they'd add yet another layer of randomness to help get your imagination going. I've always used blind drawing - just closing my eyes and scribbling, then seeing what can be made out of the shapes - as an exercise, but now it's fun to have a set of incredibly complex algorithms doing all the hard work for me :-)

    I decided to go with the last thumbnail, and used a gradient map to give it some color:

    I am so trying blind drawing next. That is a very excellent suggestion!

    Anyways... felt like doing studies before doing another round of thumbnails;

    Nice sketches on both of you! I'm exited to see how it develops.

    I made some thumbnail sketches in my sketchbook, so here they are. I have no idea if I have time to do anything more of it, but I guess I'll see.

    Oouah

    I love your sketches!
    2. Dragon shape is awesome. This would be very unique.
    5 and 9. I like the bridge shape. 5 stands out to me more though.
    7. I like those spikes.
    8. Great perspective.

    If I had to choose, it would be seven or two.

    Anyways... so I tried to do a more detailed thumbnails of the egg shaped fortress that Alembic picked out, but my mind wandered a lot when I was making the thumbnails. None of the sketches look like the egg shaped fortress... well, maybe except for the first one;

    I really like the first one, but it seems generic. The second one is intriguing though.

    Oouahh, I like them all. Hope you make time to develop one of them!

    Edgarej, I still like the first one; maybe the fortress itself is a mite generic, but if you worked on the silhouette I bet you could come up with something you liked more. Just my ten cents...

    I'm still fooling around with my Alchemy-generated tower, which I'm actually starting to like. It pretty much constitutes a speed-paint for me :-)

    I guess I should post the b/w I did today. Trying to get a composition and basic values to build a sense of depth. Still not very positive about my being able to finish it though, with only two days left and all. But I think I'll be doing some more on it before deadline anyways.

    Sorry you had to go edgarej. I was looking forward to see your egg-mountain-fort come to life!

    I might finish it someday Oouah... EOW always has some cool concepts that I would like to revisit. Which reminds me... I still want to finish my concept for EOW's "Robot Cafe" and "The Sultan's Anteroom," even though those two competitions are more than six months old.

    Haha, I am such a liar... my entry:

    I kept working on it without thinking I was actually going to finish... I was surprised I did. Anyways... it's more like a misplaced mansion than a fort, but at least I finished! Woot! Woot!

    Interesting entry zyrq. I don't see a fort though

    edgarej: Thats a really nice picture!

    zyrg: Why don't you post your entry in the FINALS -thread?

    alembic: I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll manage to post your entry too. I'm curios to see what came of your tower!
