The swamp critters are a nice deviation from the usual environments, although, Popke #21 is absolutely one of your best. As was said, teh beavar and the heron-ish bird read flat but I'd also like to add that the neck on the heron is too fragile-looking. I know you were going for that distinctive curve of the neck, just behind the head, but it looks like I could break that bird's neck like a hotdog.

The sunfish though; clearly, you love your water creatures. You have an intrigiguing, opposite pallette at work here but it's all very unified and the textures you've defined on the fish, particularly around the head, are beautiful. I'm not TOTALLY sold on the dot matrix pattern of the scales... yet oddly, it's not pissing me off nearly as much as that stuff usually does. Would be nice to see some more defined scales though, some catching a few highlights, since the more opague strokes are dulling your fish's body in some places.

With the frogs... heh. Heh heh. Heh. Sac. Now that I see this on my lappy's monitor and not the poopy ones at work, your pallette is a good mix of reds and greens; I also like the quick BG. I wanna see that sunlight hit the frogs though... and nice work with the bold stroke of white onthe peeper's sac.

    ...you're good at stroking sacs.

And yeah. Enormous crit. I just woke up and my mind is working overtime from the weird-ass dreams I had all night.

very nice. has much depth, but the wasps and the thick lines on the ship itself totally don't fit.

Always loved your stuff, mate... but this latest popke takes the cake. Wanna know why? It's because of the definition on the bridge. You really got that to stand out, and it looks real.

In terms of the wasp ship... I wouldn't agree that the thick lines and the wasp on the ship are out of place, but more of a matter of perspective. You're using a pretty simple one point (or so it seems) (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I don't think it quite gets the scene to be as vibrant as it could be.

Yarr, maybe it's a good thing that you're an anime n00b? The drawing habits of anime can grow on you like a cancer and you have to work twice as hard to rid it from your system... *sigh*

Nice work on her right quad and the right leg in general. The expression isn't half bad, but the fine lines of her facial features feel out of place. Also, those be some chunky forearms she has there!

For my half of this pic, should I try to do something in the same sort of style in Photoshop?

thanks for the comments. And err, i know ryu was a badass, i ALWAYS played as him, sakura however is marginally cooler overall. Oh and steph erm, yeah i guess a guy drawn in flash prolly wouldnt fit in too much. If you draw it in painter you might have marginally more luck getting closer to the style, thats how i did it. i loved yer sketch btw.

i like your watercolor technique, very bright and vivid. i also like the black on white stuff in the beginning of your thread. maybe try an opaque gray or something for the background with white. when done well that stuff looks like the shitz.

right so here i am in the luzern art school, and the very first thing im being taught is photoshop, thanks to some wicked twist of fate.... dont ask.

but anyway, my first ever artschool assignment, enjoy:

it was jes meant to be a collage type thing, using three key words everyday-body-movement/exercise

and yeah, mine was kind of pseudo dance instructions, for cardiovascular exercises in your office, including number 4, which is distracting your coworkers. Hence the dance steps and such that go with it, showing how your meant to do stuff, the rest is jes kind of graphic fun stuff

    Good comp on the assignement.
I think the anime-character looks a little like a boy, though... the face I mean.. She's got very broad shoulders as well.

    Love the animals!

    Where is Luzern?

and... lawl at the photoshop class. Ask the teacher if you can teach it, they don't often know the program very well.

carnifex: it was jes some ghetto PS class, they were tryn teach people how to use the program, not a particular project, your jes meant to do a collage type thing.

dcept: Heh thanks man and yeah like i said, im vereh suckeh with anime, or any cartoons for that matter, i agree with you ccompltetly but didnt know how to change it :/

panda: thanks dude Luzern is in switzerland.

Anyway, heres a newer version of it, tried to balance out the composition more, not sure which is better:

and i made a wallpaper in the same class cause i was bored, and was meant to be doing stuff in PS so yeah, not really using it though (it fits my laptop, 15 inch powerbook, and its not the same aspect ratio as most desktop monitors):

    Good updates! You constantly growing!

Can't quite place my finger on what's wrong with the anime-dudette... Narrow the shoulders, at least.. Take a look at different girls' jawlines and eyes and such, maybe that'll help you figure out that face?

oy, the line work in this update, especially on the second piece, is fanTAStic. simply FABulous.
