    Nice graffiti sketchbook

Found this nice sketchbook/photo album: http://www.neckcns.com/blackbook

I've seen graf topics come up around here a few times, so this seems like an appropriate place for it...

Graf is not easy and I know some people that just do graf and hardly anything else except whatevers in the scene, and they are like some unknown talents sometimes, but yet they just love doing graf.

I wonder how he made the sketchbook like that?

Wow... that's an amazing blackbook... I love graffiti, and this guy has TONS of styles, which is cool. Lots of times you'll see an artist with just 1 or 2 styles. Very cool.

Also, I think a lot of the peices are actually executed better than in the blackbook.

I'm gonna try to get into graf myself. Through the legal medium known to many as photoshop. More graf artists should use it. I mean they'd get locked up less and with photoshop they can put it anywhere(through the vanishing point filter).

Graffiti is the pariah of the general artist community in most cases. However, I've observed a degree of difficulty displayed in some of these pieces that rivals mainstream art. In Dumbo NYC there is an amazing example of this (attached).

I have so much respect for artists who push this art form, because it gets so beaten down so regularly.

graffiti is one of the fastest ways to truly understand the abstract vocabularies of shape, line, mark making, geometry,...color theory etc...

the influence is obvious throughout the concept art, industrial design and architecture industries.
ex-graf artists always have an advantage, when and if they delve into traditional and digital formal art education.

their inherent lust for compositional cohesion and flow , dynamism and bold movement. (even if usually 2d or 2.5d )

these artists rarely end up becoming regurgitators of their influences or or tutorials, like so many digital artist.

....they keep what is useful but never loose sight of thier own muse.
the most important criteria to the graph artist is the full development of ones personal voice.

of course there are as many example of terrible graf artist as their are terrible digital artist. good quality examples are always in the minority for all art forms.
