JamesNgArt - Sketchbook (comic & studies)

    Hi everyone,

EDIT: Originally made this thread only for a comic I'm developing, but while working on it I realized I need alot more anatomy practices, so I will include those studies here too in the later posts

This is a sketchbook is for a comic book I'm developing based on my art series Imperial Steam and Light, posted in this thread. Feel free to read more about the project here.

Fee free to comment, critique and support me by connecting with me on social media (links in my sig) Thanks everyone!

I really dig your designs and character sketches here, and the finished work in your other thread is even more spectacular. All the little mechanical details and the Chinese setting are great, so far my favourites here are the stern old lady, and the mecha-lion-centaur dude. Keep up the great work!!

I love how you have integrated a steampunk feel, in your imperial Chinese culture. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Bec! And thank you for checking out my other thread as well! Ya those two are my favorites too, villains seem much easier to design for me for some reason. The main characters are so generic, I've already begun to redesign him.

nice establishing shot! did you take inspiration on the spreads from naruto? i find myself in awe of some of the spreads of japanese comic artists. those last concepts are aweosme, maybe some color on the costumes to imply texture or fabric would be nice to develop those further. also turn arounds are a godsend to anyone that wants to work in the industry and also helps a ton when checking proportions and heights and widths of characters!

Thanks for the comments lionheart. I did read naruto but I didn't look at it specifically for inspiration, though it might have, I really enjoyed it, especially the early chapters.

Ya these are just the first drafts, I have already a huge list of things I need to fix with the characters, color and turn arounds to come soon

    Amazing work!

The perspective you used in the cityscape sketch is so dynamic!

Thanks Gigi. City scene was a bit challenging but I learned alot from that sketch. My next full painting will be that city scene from a slightly higher angel. Will be another challenge.

The old paper aesthetic has an avatar-like feel. On the scene with the village in the shadow of the hilltop, the perspective seems a little odd to me but I'm not a pro so I wouldn't really know. I like the very detailed look to everything.

Thanks for your interest Mirabu! Mmm ya perspective is not my strongest, let me rework it with more perspective lines next time. i kinda just started doodling that one without much set up.
