holy crap, talk about an overwhelming response you guys are billionfold too kind, i must go and visit many more art-threads now to stop my head swelling

you better read some of the stuff i wrote, coz its taken my like 3 hours to scan everything and organise what to post and stuff !!

replies- i hope you read these guys coz theyre taking me ages hah!

demented:thanks buddy i guess everythings been done before. it was a fun piece.
isair:yeah, theyre shits alright haha. thanks!
dirty_c: thanks! yeah man. i dont have a studio though. that would ROCK.
    j a k e:thanks fellow aus located man!
    Lewis:thanks, ill try
DannySketch: cheers man i appreciate it
blanquish:thanks buddy. he is much more skilled than I, but i hope to get there one day!

    mentler:thanks bone doctor!
Archi- cheers mate! i really appreciate it as always, thanks for sharing a crit too,
JoeHell- thansk a lot man! a photo is on the page before that one.
maxetormer-THANKS my man, i really appreciate it, speaking of reaching new levels, youre doing well too man!
    Recursive_End:thanks man be patient haha
    luxun:thankyou man!
Spade:thanks buddy, come to ashton's, youd love it! conte was shite for the highlights. i work first by drawing shapes, then by adding layers of pencil over each other slowly.

Idiot Apathy:thanks man haha ashtons has taught me so much especially on the philosophy of drawing, ways to achieve beauty that we all aspire to. on the other hand, i have been drawing a lot away from school so its a mix of both applying what i learn and learning while doing it!

Bard:thanks man, open a thread there are many amazing artists to aspire to, not me though.
hurri-= thanks so much! cheers for the oc session!!
Ra Havok: well said my man, cheers!

ZebzFree: yeah dude stay in touch with your CA pals, hope you can update soon! thanks and congrats on the internship!!! well done!!
Idiot Apathy: YAY!!! ill send ye a PM soon!

ummm i also won 1st prize for the latest SP at a local exhibition, its a big wad of cash for me so im really stoked! it was hard to finish that amidst art school and work.

OK...well ive just been really trying to step up how much i draw

Been doing a lot of life drawing around trains and stuff, as well as tons of gestures.

i havent had time to do much else so im sorry about that, but ive been getting home at 10 from most nights so yeah very very long days at school/work and no time to scan or post.

and this is basically all from the past week and a half. lot of it is at work and out, but of course i cant post everything since its mostly shite anyway !

Life drawings/...just posting some gestures again

all the dark ones with the fold in the middle are on A2 size so i took photos.

    30 mins..

    1 min

    3 mins

    5 mins

    10 mins

anywhere between 5-10 i cant remember.

    25 mins.

on the train..fun but really hard!

during one of the members here called "briggsy@ashtons" lectures (it was on neck/head)

    some studies...

and just fun stuff ive been doing at work or at art school in my free time..i usually spray it with tria ink in some and work on it later while im away from home...obviously some are inspired by the art gods of massive black

    cheers!!!!!

Fkn awesome update man! Really really like your figures, awesome volume you get with your lines. Love it. So i assume you go to Julian Ashtons? I've heard its a great school, really interested in it after i finish high school.

Ink some was awesome, pencils are sweet as usual mate.

Whey-hey! Congrats on the win Rodrigo! With the amount of kickassness you've been pulling out recently i'm not surprised.

Ah bother... if i'd only been this dedicated at your age.

dude, youre getting really good, and all these studies and drawing will pay off.
Ive seen that in your work, some of it is more contrasted than others, and the contrasted ones are much better.
Keep up all this drawing shenanigans!

ohhhh man! fucking sweet man! overwhelmed here by the greatness so Ill just leave you with a question if thats alright, how do you construct your heads? they are always so well proportioned and 3-dimensional, do you use loomis technique or just go from scratch? I have a feeling my proportions are all fucked up so im just wondering if theres anything to do about it Its a pretty big question though, just pretty much wondering if you use any special technique or something...

Well anyway, amazingly your lifedrawing just keep on improving and improving (well ALL of your stuff is improving ofcourse)
    Baahh keep it up

The ink experiments are also fun to look at

Hey man, I was wondering, when you shade your drawings, do you use the tip of the pen, or the side of it? In some drawings I can see that you use the tip, but in others... I can't.

    Excellent stuff anyway! Very inspiring.

hey all, just posting up some stuff done in the past week, last weeks stuff sucked too much to post. theyre all life drawings from my sketchbook pad (A2 size).

sorry i havent had time much to visit your art, ive been leaving home at 8 and getting home at 10 30 most nights so not much time to do anything!!

with some of these gestures i try to get the proportions and shadow shapes in and then add the halftones afterwards in the breaks, so some are more worked up than i would do in the actual time slot. still i had a massive struggle the past week drawing. ill post the rest of them later
    thanks for the wonderful support!!

    hurricane:thanks man! no you dont!

j a k e: thanks man, when do you finish school?

dirty_c:thanks man. i was sixteen tho. hhaha yes, the days of Nar's

    glikster:thanks!

    Erilaz:thanks bro!

maxetormer:cheers, thanks for the oc session.

    Burning Eyes:thanks a lot

    Recursive end- thanks heaps

    rblitz7: around 17" by 24"? thanks!

iolarnula:thanks, i wouldnt call a fluke steamrolling though

    blanquish:thanks !

archipelago:thanks so much man. no probs, mainly i think construction techniques are great but you need 3 things- planes, proportions and structure..they all woik with each other. loomis is great for all, 3rds for the face and halfway for the eyes, look at some skulls for structure, and loomis has some great stuff on the facial planes (eg. side/upper/lower). look at all that and then dont stop drawing it

    Arne S.:thanks!

Stay-cheers ! ill try to do some better ones

Sarcophagus:there you go, i use both tip hatching and side for blocking in areas of shadow...thanks a lot!

Spade:thanks a lot man. conte was just for whites. blacks were pencil.

    ArtZealot:thanks

bumskee: ahh man! thanks so much! huge admiration for your work ! dont be so down all the time! coming from me that probably doesnt help hahaha!

Skeiff:thanks dude! hopefully i can do a big update soon.

    in chrono order (days)…

    5 mins

    5 mins

    10 mins

    15 mins

    10-15 mins + a bammes study

    10-15 mins

    30 mins

plus i know youre sick of this drawing by now, but i thought it was a cool photo, its an in progress shot before the bg was finished, i forgot to post it before.

nice stuff rodrigo..one thing i notice and is often seen on people who have learned in modern ateliers is the use of straight lines..is good when beginning to use straight lines to get to the curve ones!!..look at any master drawing..i was looking at tintoretto's yesterday you'll see what i mean....there is not a single straight line in the human body , i remember reading from a master saying that this kinda lines reminds him of crystals (i was doing that for a while..but know feel those curves..) ...i dont know if is a modern trend but that makes artist dont look hard enough..yes its good for simplifying planes and looking for geometries within the body, but ultimately the body is convex..

my new site, is crazy stuff but is my own space, I can say whatever!! hehe:

    Hey Rod.

I really like the way you build tone on that last life drawing. It looks as though you attack patches of ground in a fairly random way, but by keeping on doing it, build up texture and tone with it. There's definitely a very alive feeling to the way the light is on the skin of that model. Nice one.

Thanks alot for the answer man
woot! I love the sense of life and character in those lifedrawings, excellent! have you ever tried using different mediums on those though? Id recommend trying a more permanent medium like ballpoint or pen, could be interesting to see!
