I'm really trying to step out of my comfort zone and explore deep perspective and figure invention. I have mangled the human form in unspeakable ways, but I felt like it was significantly useful practice. I feel like I should focus on doing more finished pieces this year as well since I rarely take anything beyond sketches.

In other news, the vegetables and exercise seem to be having an effect. Of course, I had to flex just so, with the light at the right angle, but dang if it isn't exciting to see a glimmer of results after a life-time of being overweight. Plus, you can't tell me that being in shape wouldn't be a useful anatomical resource.

Drew a skull from memory over my lunch break. The fancy-shmancy mechanical pencil doesn't have an eraser sadly.

I see you and I have a similar story in regards to leaving art and coming back to it. You going for broke this time around to try and be a concept artist? I am digging the updates and glad to see you are just trying to keep the pencil moving. I started doing the assignments in these old

    threads http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...eek?highlight=

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...ait-Study-quot

I am starting at week one and just gonna keep going for awhile to train up. I actually think 50 gestures a week is too little though haha.

Yeah fifty isn't that much. I did 30 every day for a month a while back. I'm gonna be doing 10 C1 vertebrae studies for the next ten days, but if you need a gesture drawing buddy, count me in. I love gesture drawing.

I love the way you draw your figures. There's a lot of movement in the poses. It gives them a sense of energy Also, congrats on the recent weight loss! I just started visiting the gym with my friend (I've never stepped foot in one before). My main mode of exercise has been moving between 3 chairs all day. haha. Anyway, I really like what you have here. I can't wait to see more. ^_^

Nice. Vertebrae studies are a good idea. Currently I "need" to split my time between Body gestures, Hand gestures/studies (hands are my biggest weakness in 2D), and Gorilla Skulls/heads (long term personal project goal related). I am doing about 30 Gestures a day 15 body, 15 hands. I am down to coordinate something. I have a couple buddies who are down as well. At least one of them is interested in making a CA.org account.

Thank you! Giving my figures a sense of energy is something that I'm really working on. I also think exercise is important for figure drawing. I've learned so much about my own body alignment through yoga and it's something that can be translated to figure drawing.

Sweet! I think going it alone has been part of my downfall. I'm going to start on the gesture drawings for today in a bit. I guess we can perform some necromancy on that thread and just post our sketches there. I doubt anyone would mind. Or did you already have something in mind? Also, gorilla skulls huh? I look forward to seeing those when you get to them.

Day one of C1 studies: Quicker pencil studies and one longer study with black acrylic paint.

Aaaand here are 30 60-second upside down gesture drawings of feet. I'm rusty. Some of these don't even look anything remotely foot-like.

Being a lone wolf is rough, especially when it seems like the people around you want to draw less, not more. Since I started way back in 2004, none of my close friends draw anymore. They all moved onto either something else outside of art or they do something in entertainment that doesn't involve, drawing, painting, form, etc. The two dudes in my signature haven't drawn in years and probably don't plan to pick it back up. It definitely gets a little lonely haha. Reviving that thread would be kind of hilarious. Especially the one that is over 10 years old. Let me think about it. Maybe we can start a cross post sketchbook thread for our shenanigans. I have been heavily considering checking out level up. Mainly because I think the crits would be helpful. Have you explored that stuff at all? Testimonial quotes mean jack to me lol.

I'm pretty sure Level Up is completely dead. The way I hear it, the main Manley dude isn't coming back, but he still keeps the lights on. I imagine it's how he keeps the site running. Maybe only consider it as a donation or something.

*Face Palm* you have got to be kidding me. I just went down the rabbit hole a little bit. My mind is a little blown. Looks like schoolism is the better alternative. Man I can't believe just how far this site has fallen. Gotta just keep on keepin on I guess

I am probably digging the traditional painting studies the most. Are you using lined paper for studies because it's cheap, and you don't plan on keeping the drawings?

Yeah, the painting bits are my favorite too. I'm using the lined paper because it's VERY cheap and they're bound together. I paid 50 cents for two notebooks at Walmart. They were on sale.

Here's today's stuff. Four a.m. rolled around yesterday and I elected to catch up on sleep rather than draw anything.

I understand going the cheap route and I can't really blame you. That being said. It's lined paper. lol. I will be fully supportive of your move to lineless paper whenever you finally pull that trigger.

You are at least drawing so I can't really be a hater. Keep it up.

Do I detect a hint of paper-snobbery?! You're right of course. I've graduated to a lineless-paperless-paper today. I even made it GINORMOUS so you can see the lack of lines.
