Animation Portfolio Workshop Win A Free Tuition Contest 2015

I'm really happy to announce that we will be holding the Animation Portfolio Workshop Win A Free Tuition Character Design Contest again this year.

Basically you design a character and the contest judge chooses the ones he/she likes the best out of all the entrants.

First prize is free tuition to the upcoming Spring 2015 / 2016 session of the Workshop.

We are very happy to have Toon Boom and Toronto Comicon onboard as official sponsors for the event, so that means that other prizes include Toon Boom animation software programs, and passes to a Toronto Comicon weekend event....we also have passes to Anime North as a prize and various other interesting items to give away.

    .....please visit our site:

APW 2015 WIN A FREE TUITION CHARACTER DESIGN CONTEST

    for details.

I will be posting here regularly with updates to encourage as many of you as possible to enter, so as to have a shot at winning some free stuff.

Happy New Year, and Happy Drawing!

Pro tip #1 win a free tuition contest

We had a bunch of students who will be joining the Spring 2015 session visit us over the weekend, and of course I encouraged all of them to enter the free tuition contest and take a shot at getting some free stuff.

The immediate question that came up was 'can you give me any ideas that might help with designing the character'......and the answer off the top of my head was to go take a look at the character design Pro Tips on our website as a starter.

Basically these are constructed to give students some of the most fundamental tips on designing a decent character.

So head on over and start with this - PRO TIP #1 SIMPLE SHAPE

.....and get cracking on those designs!

Pro Tip #5 Win A Free Tuition Contest

    Hi Guys.

Here is the link to character design ProTip #5:

Win A Free Tuition ProTip #5

This one is a really good one, and the principle that it is encouraging you to study learn and apply to all your character designs is kind of a universal principal that we find in Nature.
This one gets utilized in all the art forms - Contrast -

My first year Art College Design teacher used to say "variety creates interest" and "there cannot be movement in nature without contrast - apply this principle to all your design work".

    He was right....
Its a biggy, so study it carefully

Thanks to Myke Bakich for breaking it down for us with some simple diagrams

Our Early Bird prize winner is Alexa Phillip.

Alexa will be going to check out Toronto Comicon this weekend with a friend.

Get to work on those designs!
