From my extremely limited perspective, it seems that concept art is a tiny field, perhaps a small field straddling illustration and design.

Is this true?

Also, I imagine concept artist to be almost entirely involved with computer games, and perhaps an even tinier group involved with movies (given the fact that so few movies are produced). What is the breakdown of concept artists, what percent are involved with computer games, movies etc?

Also, does respect for concept artist come mainly from inside the field, or are there general respect from larger society in the same way they respect other artforms(architecture, literature, theatre, dance, music)?

Is there wide acclaim for concept art, or is this field generally perceived (*keyword "perceived") to be a negligible, invisible, perhaps even(shudder) a trashy, superficial art?

Once again, I know very little, and my perspective may reflect reality very poorly.
