I am new to the forum, although not altogether new to the art world. However, I have been given a task to create a 3d sphere from mere cardboard. I am in search of direction, ideas and inspiration. Thank you much.
well, what about a geodesic dome.
using 6 sided peices with slitly taper edges.

thanks for the input. I thought about doing a closed form...but unfortunatly we must explore the work with regard to the space between the planes...
I like the soccer ball idea..but I think it's too simple. Also, we must be able to roll the sphere down a slight incline.
Let me know if you have any other ideas.
how about cutting out several cirlces of cardboard, from small diameter to large, then back to small again, with cutouts for a few crossing circles?
I barely understood that myself, but i am tired and don`t feel like explaining things right now.
hope you get the idea.
you could get a circle big enough then cut into it from the edge in a spiral (declining in the intended width required for structure) then when you get to the centre pull it out and you have very roughly hlaf sphere no effort!!.. same again with same dimentions stick together and voila a sphere would look crazy... would need supports to keep the gaps equidistant.
