Those last two look like really good starts but I reckon you could push them a little further. There are great spots in them like the texture just above the lip on the left portrait. I also love the lightsource you used to the right hand side portrait. Overall I think on the left hand side one the left eye is too far left and too far up. Also its the same with the other one. Plus the hair could do withs ome work in both. You have a good value range going on as well. Keep em coming.

Your doing awesome...soldier portrait is nice, are you going to work on it further, like the helmet and shirt etc? good range of color int he face, though his left cheekbone has some problems you can easily fix, judging by the nice forms in other parts of his face.

Nice master studies - where did you find those particular reference images? There is certainly a lot to think about when it comes to color...I have some knowledge but am not ready to use it effectively at this point. anyways keep rockin

So here are my first try outs!!
First one is just from imagination and the i used a reference and tried to make it cleaner but i wasnt used to the programm...so after a while i had to stop could look at the screen anymore

Hey dude i like those SP's !! very good drawing,
and the pencil work is good too
and that last soldier is awesome

for the color studies most of them
are too saturated, try some low key ones too.

for example one color would be the most saturated the rest less saturated

also take screenshots of a movie you like and use the color
picker to do a series of gradations, for example on a face
colorpick the lightest light then the next dark color of the skin
and copy as many following a series of steps like lighter to darker
    or darker to lighter . . . . . .

. . . . now that you have those colors aligned
use the colorpick and slide through it
and see how the color sliders in photoshop behave
and find patterns or behavious of color,
    hope that made sense :-)

    keep up the good work

Hey man, can't beleive you get so little views, this is a really great sb you have going on. That marine portrait is beautiful, his expression is perfect. Also I enjoyed this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1197854118, you should do more like that.

Overall just keep drawing from life man there is plenty improvement here.

Soja your work has progressed dramatically since you first started your sketchbook.
After checking out your first 4 or so pages I then jumped across to some of your more recent work and it is easy to see that you have developed greatly.

I am definitely going to go back and give your SB a more thorough look.

    Steve.

I did another sketch last night in bed on my DS!!!
    Love that thing!!
I took the Figure Drawing Book of Henry Yan and took one portrait in B&W and tried to paint it in color on my DS.
    Very quick and sloppy

You've been working hard, which means I haven't been here in forever. Those color studies are cool, particularily the purple ones after you recieved the comment on saturation levels...I feel you learned the most from those ones.

Im glad you worked on that soldier painting further, love the realistic look in his eyes, could pop the highlights just a tad more. I think there might be too much saturation in it, especially in the bright parts? very bright light will wash out color a bit no? His skin is good in the fact that it feels dirty though.

Nice painting of nora, though the glasses on the left side feel crooked, and that ear needs finishing, dont be afraid to also pop out the hair highlights. Keep doing what you are
