    there and back again...08/01/06

...I thought of starting a (daily won't be possible because I often have to work abroad, but as often updated as possible) sketchbook in order to keep my self drawing and learning...
C+C very welcome ...and thanks for taking the time to have a look!

I'll start with some older sketches...

horse races for an rpg game

sketches for orkish battle horses (that appear to be a mixture between horse and wolve actually):

today I was doing some quick sketches of animals in the zoo...most of them in ink:
    wolves and birds:

    one of the wolves closer:

    young capricorn, eagle...:

    brown bear:

dunno the english name of that quick-moving-fellow:

and once more the brown bear...pencil

    and some more recent stuff

    sp and other doodles

a barn that is not far from my home...

quick portraits of Vasso, a 4 years old girl from bulgaria...who was supporting me with adding some pencil strokes on the drawings...

another sp...with glasses...but I'm not too happy with it...something is wrong, but I don't really find out what

...and, final one for today, a clown, just tried a sketch with ink and markers....I like clowns...

I love those animal sketches, they are very cute and fuzzy and hairy all over....wish I had a pet. Keep posting.

I have been too lazy with scanning and posting, though I have been drawing...now...here's some proof.
I'll first post my last dsgs, on some of them I've continued working.
    like the wizard of oz...
    a) very quick pencil sketch

    b) result for the dsg

thank you Hazzard for your comments on this - I tried to improve the picture...that was not supposed to be the final version, but I seem to have messed up my ps-file. It's gone don't know if I'll continue that one. I only have the mini size bad quality saved for web version left.

    Some other DSGs
tree of lost souls-very quick one

moody chapel, also very quick one, had problems with scanning here, because of the textured paper...maybe someone can give me advice here?

here a piece for a challenge against Lurchus Orilios and vigostar - I'm not too happy with it and follow vigo's advice to take more time for it...I think I'll do it again cause I like the idea behind it...

and now....I'll go scanning some more of my recent stuff

    a study I did today...
I guess I have to draw more jars in early future..and I have to do a lot more studies in general and I have to study perspective...
Well, besides the jar (an etrurian bucchero cantharos): some of my alabaster copies of ancient terracotta (archaic Demeter) and marble(fragment of a roman satyr)....and a little knife, that has never been sharp...

    Hi Nike,

Enjoyed perusing your sketchbook - you've got some good sketches going. My only suggestion/critique aside from continued anatomy studies is to aslo work on perspective some - your picture with cobra/snake critter has some serious issues. Fortunately, it's stuff that can be easily overcome

Cheers, and keep up the good works!

hi Oregano - thanks a lot, yes, you are absolutely right, perspective is one of my biggest weaknesses ...I am trying to work on it ...
same for anatomy...and light....and get over it one day .

    I did another DSG today...

    pencil sketch

colored in ps....but I think I have to change something with the light

    update, small update

some anatomy studies (hands, thought i d start with hands)
used the book of Gottfried Bammes for these two

two quick studies of my left hand:

and some perspective studies...I thought I'd start with something simple, as that's my weakest point I think:
(please igone the glass, it's err...well...

    more coming soon,
    c&c welcome as always, thanks

Oregano - thanks a lot for taking a look again, and thank you again for your help - it's much appreciated!

And...I did some more perspective studies....

glasses and jars are still not my friends (but I'll force them to, I'll work on it)

oh, well, and this one for a challenge with Lightkirtar

It's Dream of the Endless (Sandman), our topic was a comicbook character.
I'm not sure if I like him....but I have worked on this too long, I need a break.

little update again...I was a bit busy the last days...so I don't have much to offer.
Some very quick doodles I did whilst attending university lessons...I tried to portrait some profs and students (which is harder cause usually they're looking into the wrong direction )

Here you can see - horror has a name - one of my literature profs, who is specialiced on horror and sf literature this semester. Oh....I think he is reading Lenore...

here some doodle of an ancient history pof. telling some ancient egyptian stories...a nice lesson but so late at the evening...

    some random doodles...students and stuff

    ...

now that was from an oc session that crashed down after about 10 min

and something I started for yesterday's dsg icedemon...such a nice topic...I wish I could have finished it yesterday...or even today...but I'm so tired...didn't start that with real concept, I guess I'll work it out or redo it next weekend..

...and some more stuff...nothing specially nice -i m just still trying to work on my weak points...and didn t have that much time this week...

    I'm still working on perspective...

tried to do something a little bit more funny...quite quick one though.

and because I've met him this week, a (very) quick portrait of a friend of mine...this was about 15 -20 min.

    Heya,

That portrait came out really good for being quick. You're perspectives are coming along as well

Very nice Nike. Greatest thing I see here is the improvement. One thing that you could work on is your values and your sense of form. When you conquer that I can see you improving even more.

    Very good thread.

Another quick update - oh and I'm tired do please excuse my english

Oregano- thanks for taking a look again
Well, the portraits, I'm trying to do as many of these quick portraits as I can...most of them during lessons at university...it's the same with the animal sketches-it's fun to do them and I at least think that that life drawing stuff is really making sense. I'm feeling more and more secure with it. And people...are just almost everywhere

MIKECORRIERO - thanks for taking a look at my sketchbook and the encouraging/motivating words!

Daunting - thanks to you, too ...well, there are a lot of things I have to improve and work on....I'm trying to do it step by step...with some system...well, I hope I can keep that when life will be getting more busy around me again.

    and today's...
quick portraits of students (5-15min each) I did during a seminary (well, the presentation was obviously not that exciting - journalism has never been my over all favourite thing....it s frustrating to know how the media are working)...

    and one more

and a quick dsg, maybe too quick.
    gate to Hades
