quick sketch I did HAHAHAHAHA...i said quick:(

actually I was going to place this into the "finally finished forum" but I was unsure of whether B & W qualifies as finished material :| Or at least in this case. Took about 8-10 hours or more off and on...using photo reference.

    Enjoy!

Nice work! I like the teeth detail especially, would've like to see darker tones in the right eye since its in the shadows.

I totally agree with you on the darker tones. I need to get a better variety of pencils to use here at wor....err I mean at home while there is nothing to do

I might go into photoshop and help out the values a bit. darker on right and more light given to left...but softer.

what kind of pencils are you using? I use a 6b or 8b if you can find em? Also a smudge stick is great for removing the pencil lines.

I think it looks pretty good. There seem to be tonal control problems, but like you said, you don't have the pencils to fix that .

A few things that strike me as off, even though the drawing is very nice, are the lips and the eyes. They make the drawing seem very flat. Of course, since you drew it from a photograph, it will look 2D, but what makes it look very flat to me is that they look drawn seperately, and then put together, as if there is no structure behind them.

Oh and the lips. Lips, on a face, do not have defined edges, but are defined by the shadows and highlights around them. The bottom of the lip has the most prominent shadow, as it is a cast shadow from the lip. A great study of the face to do is to not define anything, but to sort of squint your eyes and look at shadow patterns.

The nose also looks funny to me, it curves in an odd direction.

It looks very nice, I admire your pencil work

I was trying to unify the peice through everything...but I bet going back to define the shadows a bit more would help. I know what you mean by the lips. I think I was so concerned to try not to create that "lips with lines" effect that I actually created "lips with lines" haha. But alas more study is needed to make things better

I will try the squint method. Sounds like an interesting thing.

Oh and the pencils I have at work err I mean NOT AT WORK I WOULD NEVER DRAW THERE are/is just one - a crappy 2 HB pencil (if that even qualifies as a pencil). But hey you gotta draw when you have the chance or it will slip away hehe. I am working on a full body one this week. Perhaps I can get a rough one up and you guys can take a look.

btw thanks for the crits...always appreciated.
