    Conceptart keeps getting more and more confusing... Anways, the three giants I copied straight out of Petar Meseldzija's Book of Giants, so I can't take credit for those, but here's a bunch of recent stuff.

    Thanks Tubz! I'll try to keep them coming.

    This past week or two I've tried to focus on memory more than anything else. So almost everything this time is drawn from memory or imagination. It's something I don't do enough at all, its kind of embarrassing sometimes. I'm working on thumbnails for my next big oil painting commission, so that's what some of this is... SketchDump!!

    Nice figure drawings - I admire your ability to draw facial features accurately with a few strokes in your sketches. Also, your space paintings (like your current sketchbook icon) are really awe-inspiring.

    Sadly, no critiques from me - I'm not skilled enough to see anything wrong with your stuff yet.

    Thanks! Guardian G.I. Sorry for the extremely late reply. I haven't posted on here in forever... But I really appreciate it.

    I've been working on my second space painting for waaaaaay too long and it's just been sucking up all of my time. But here's a few small things since my last post.

    Is anybody still on ConceptArt?? I haven't gotten any updates from anybody I used to "follow" or whatever. And no one's been commenting (I'm not starved for attention, I just miss everybody lol) Hope you guys are still out there cranking out artwork. Drop me a line if you are!

    Here's a Still Life I did the other night. It's just gouache in my sketchbook.

    Its really annoying, the site wont notify me when you are updating either, i think maybe the contacts system has been messed up on this site.

    Your work is incredible, I actually thought the oil painting of Mars was a photo. Your sketches are really inspiring, any words of wisdom for a wannabe?

    @Dolan

    "any advice for a wannabe?" lol That's all I am! Thanks a ton for the compliment, but i looked through your sketchbook and I'm really in no place to give you any good advice. Alas, I will try anyway: You said somewhere in your sketchbook you were waiting to get better at pencil before you move on to other media. I think you should be trying at least 3 or 4 different media all the time. Not only is it just fun, you learn to see things differently and from new angles and that will apply to all of your art. What helped me the most was forcing myself to draw from memory. Also instead of using photos for reference, make studies from those photos and then only use those studies for reference (whenever you do a bigger painting/ drawing). That's what I did with the Mars painting and I think it helped a whole lot. I went outside and painted real clouds and used those. I made studies of Mars rocks and used those studies instead of the pictures etc... But really, you seem to be doing very well.

    This is what I'm working on now. It will be a big oil painting, so I'm working on the underdrawing. I obviously haven't gotten very far yet so it's pretty rough, but if you see anything super wrong or have any comments, please let me know.

    Wow, thanks for the kind words. It's so great to see the work in progress definitely jealous of the drawing board. It's also reminding me that I should spend the time laying out my drawings in proper perspective, rather than just guessing!

    You our asked for some critique in my sb but I'm not sure what I can offer! I love the a-symmetry of the spire structure in the background and the domed building in the foreground is a really interesting stylistic contrast. The huge arch in the building / rock face lower left is interesting, I wonder if it might be fun to see some additional structure within it supporting the domed building above?

    The under drawing is wonderfully detailed, do you not lose a lot of that when you start painting over it? How do you keep track of the detail?

    Thanks Dolan! yeah, i need to work on that whole cliff wall thing. I usually sketch in the basic shapes like "arch" or something and then go back and design and detail it. How do I keep track of the detail while painting it? No idea lol. That's always my biggest problem. I'm going to attempt to paint thinly at first to kind of build up the whole thing and then slowly use more opaque/ thicker paint. That way (in theory) I only lose the drawing when I'm sure of what I'm doing. However, I've tried to do this with every painting I've ever done and I end up reworking things so many times that I completely lose the drawing and have to basically redraw it with the paint. Which really sucks. I have found though, if you work out all your problems with the drawing (or at least as much as you can) you won't have to guess or design as much in the painting stage. So before I paint this I'll probably take a good picture of it and get it printed out pretty large so I can use it as a guide if I end up covering up the drawing too much. I might try out your way of rendering from one spot outwards, that would be the smart way to do it I think. At least in some areas.
