Great sketchbook! haha I'm in the same situation as you, but opposite I'm a 2d guy learning 3d stuff right now.. just started working with Zbrush 2 months ago. Really powerful tool but a bit hard. I'm still learning tons haha but I suck so bad!!

You've got nice drawings, and I can sense your sculpting experience from the way you construct the face. That first drawing is a lot similar to Mogilevtsev's figure in his book 'Fundamentals of Drawing'. Have you by any chance worked with it?

    Looking forward for more!

Thank you! There's ton Zbrush tutorials on youtube and over the internet) you can check them, for 2d it's really cool opportunity to speed up process, I'm slacking on sculpts duo lack of time) How do you know Mogilevtsev's book? It's really funny moment actually I know it's translated from Russian to English but I think this book is very rare in English speaking community, everyone read books like Eliot Goldfinger, Andrew Lomis, Deborah Rockman (I got this one, bought used one at fair price from amazon ^__^ ) etc. Here come the tricky part I'm currently studying in Mogilevtsev's class (I feel damn lucky and very appreciate it specially because I don't have any artistic background, just ordinary self taught guy who's struggling for drawing), he's very good teacher and awesome person, I'm not a student of Russian academy of arts and very regret that. I think some Academy's of Arts around the globe have traditions or you can arrange with teacher that you will work as model for portrait study for a while and they let you draw in studio like a price for it.
p.s. portrait posing is hard))) but it's fair price for drawing in Academy of arts)

Haha yeah man! I bought a few awesome tutorials on Gumroad from Dominic Qwek. Really sick stuff. He works for blizzard as a cinematic artist so he's really into it and I'm learning quite a lot.
    Here's his page if you're curious - https://gumroad.com/dominicqwek
Damn that is cool. You get to study under Mogilevtsev in return for being a portrait model?? wow. I want to do that as well!! Ever since I found out about the Russian academy I have wanted to go there, but I don't know the language and I'm kinda looking into other academies as well (in florence). I just heard they started to do summer courses in florence though so I am saving money so I can go there next summer and study with them
It's quite funny. I found out about the book here in ConceptArt. The russian academy have a thread on the forums where they discuss art and used to write a lot about whats going on - and they posted that this book will be released. So I mailed them about it and bought it. It's a really really good book. Great to study with. I imagine it's quite rare in west too since nobody knows about Mogilevtsev or the russian academy.
Cool to hear about what you're up to. So you live in St Petersburg now and study there or?

p.s those pictures look amazing. I want to study there so badly!!

All Fine art Academies with traditional backgrounds are awesome including Russian, for foreign students main problem is language you need to know Russian to communicate with teachers and other students coz they could tell you important information what happen around. Russia is the place where less people know English or other language except Russian but lot of them communicate with hands gesture like Italians In Academy itself there’s lot of Chinese students, and China is country where everyone know only Chinese language, try to imagine situation when Chinese student trying to understand Russian teacher or explain something)). Russian Academy have some agreement with China, lot of Chinese students study here free. Yeah I want to study here too, but I have no chances to pass exams yet and got some personal reason (still don’t know why I’m drawing if I want to make badass models for games but fine art is cool))) Last price for study here was 7k euro for foreign citizen and 3k euro for Russian citizens who didn't pass exams if they pass exams they study for free (CHEATERS))). I don’t know about summer courses, but yeah I know that they have branch in Italy. In my opinion if you have resources to study somewhere around Europe check Spanish Academy, I think Spanish traditional fine art is still awesome. Living in Spain much cheaper than live and study in Italy also if you are in Madrid – Prada museum is free after 6 o’clock, you could always check the great art))) There’s also branch of Florence Academy in Sweden http://www.florenceacademyofart.se/en/why-faa/ and Royal Academy (if you are living in Stockholm you could check is it possible or not to became external student for portrait posing or any others rules)
I know about this tutorial) here are some links of cool gumroads from polycount http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137585
Currently I’m live in Saint Petersburg it’s very beautiful city, bad thing about it - is weather it look like London with grey skies raining and it’s Russia and it’s cold!

    Hello Rav3,

I came back to your portfolio, and I continue enjoying it.

All the sketches you made of people are from life drawing? Your studies on it are really good.

    Best regards

Wow, you are covering so many different mediums and disciplines! I especially enjoy seeing the figure drawing and portraits in pencil. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your traditional oils. Looks of promise here and discipline, keep going, this is great stuff!
