New to digital painting, need some directions

This one was done yesterday. I kinda how it ended up, but I don't know what can I add within my style. I was concentrating in the colors, so the design isn´t that interesting.

This one I did a while ago, even before I started to learn gesture (I still am). I'm pleased with the colors and overall feel of, but I feel it is too flat and I would add a lot more variation in the tones. I think the tree is too distracting and not rendered very well, and while i like the cast shadow it doesn't make much sense, seeing the position of it. I now realize the anatomy on the ostrich-like creature is way off (it is too top heavy, doesn't feel balanced). I like the sky, but I see it as too isolated. I know I would change a lot with this one, but I'd like to hear your opinion.

Anyways guys, I'm new to this site and digital painting in general, and any guidance you might have would be helpful. I´m also planning to buy one of Loomis books. Thanks a lot.
