    Hey, Brandon. The main reason that cd cover shines is because of all the contrast - there is a wide distribution of lights and darks that plays off of each other. I would look for ways to up the contrast in your image, either in the fly or in the surrounding shapes. Right now it's all very close so you don't know what to focus on.

    Hey, nice designs there, that album cover is quite striking and well executed. I agree with the previous crit though in the lack of contrast, particularly as, to me, your eye is drawn to the center and your focal point is the fly's face, and that area is very murky. I would suggest bringing out brightness in either the whole face or at least in some areas.

    I'd also like some background info on these, what is the banner for and what is its relation to the album cover?

    Hi,
    that's not bad for a starter, if i where you I would try to add some color to the scene. i would also recommend you to search for typographic blogs in order to understand types a little bit more.
