    Temple of the Starving Artist

Hey guys my name is Jos, I'm 17, I'm new to the site and I'd thought I would post some of my artwork. Most of it is from my DA which is Xiphyc. Hopefully I will get better as I update this page more and more. Thank you.

I've been wanting to experiment more lately. I've picked up a Pentel brush pen when I went to Japan so I have been using that a lot lately.

Some of it is older and crappy ( I put the old stuff towards the end strangely enough) though some is newer and still crappy but not as bad.

More stuff, mainly drawn from photographs and pose sites. I'm trying to get away from using pencil too much so most of my sketches are now in microns and brush pen. :o They're not the best but I'm definitely getting more comfortable with the mediums.

How are you liking the brush pen? I'm thinking of getting one and even more so now after seeing your sketches.

I really love the pens. I've been drawing non stop with the brush pen and the ink cartridge hasn't run out yet so those last a while. Also I've been just inking on normal computer paper, it doesn't bleed through the back and looks pretty good. I bet if I used higher quality paper the lines would look a tiny bit better but it doesn't matter much. You should get one. Thanks again for your comment, it means a lot.

Here's another picture that took me forever. Done with micron and brush and then scanned in for color. This wasn't really from reference, just the pose for the cop from pose maniacs and I looked at pictures of balloon tanks/guns.

Microns are Sakura Pigma Microns. Sakura is this company that makes different art supplies and one of the things they make are art pens. Microns are thin point pens but are not ball point. They're good for line work and pen sketching. http://www.sakuraofamerica.com/Pen-Archival

Some figure drawing I did real quick. My lines are pretty crappy and the proportions are off. Oh well.

Well the first one is some weird brush pen and highlighter sketches I did out of my head. They're not very good but I felt the need to post it, I'm not sure why.

The next is a brush pen sketch I did from a photo, no pencil first. Then I scanned it into Photoshop and I did a quick study of the colors in the original photo. I kind of guessed so they're not the best colors but it I just did that pretty quickly.

    LostTemple,

I dig the heavy blacks you have going on in a number of your drawings. Do you ever draw in public places? The last image in post #7 looks like it could be one...

Yeah but I haven't done it too much this summer, I'm waiting for school to start. The ones I did last year are kinda bad so I'm not going to post them haha. The last image in #7 was 4 different images of backpackers I just thought looked like they belonged in the same sort of scene. The person in the front though messes up the perspective on that one.

The last drawing of post #19 looks great I'd suggest doing some studies of the anatomy of the head and its planes too, maybe it's simply because you're sketching quickly but sometimes the placement of the features seems a bit off

Yeah I do realize when the anatomy is a bit off. I don't really mess around with cleaning up my sketches or changing stuff before I color or upload it. In a couple weeks I'm going to start doing loads of studies and do more cleaner and put together work. Thanks for your reply to the thread it means a lot!

First day of senior year, did some drawings. All of them were out of my head except the one of my teacher, I did that from life. She kept talking about how her 8th grader thought she knew everything. Done with a brushpen like usual.

A crappy school sketch I did in Latin. I've slowed down since school started so I really need to draw more.

I'm not sure what this is... I started it with colored pencil for a sketch, then pen, and then I scanned it. At that point it got weird. No reference, just out of my head.
