    Talking Sick

Lately I am noticing people using "sick" as a positive adjective. It's making me pause and reorient myself every time. I guess it's the current fad replacement for the evergreen "cool" or the more recent "sweet".

I think I might start using "schway" - that would put me way ahead of the times, wouldn't it?

    It definitely would!
I for myself will wait for the glorious return of 'rad' and 'gnarly'.

Why not just use all of the terms, be that one guy that talks in opposites? Or go all out on horridly beautiful oxymorons?

"Sick" is bi-coastal American surfer/car culture/skateboard jargon, I think. Probably originated like 45 years ago along with "wicked", "bitchin'", "crazy", "radical", and "gnarly" ... all of which were once negative terms.

If you want to be really hip you need to appropriate current negative terms and use them in a positive way. i.e. "Whoah, that picture is cancer!" "

And "schway" is the same thing, from Batman Beyond.

"That's some crazy $hit". You know you've reached rock bottom when comparing something to mentally disturbed feces is considered a complement.

Reminds me of when I named one of my music tracks 'Quaint' without bothering to check the meaning.

    Still not changing the name.

Reminds me of a guy I had known who had the meaning of "extrapolate" all wrong, and was defending it saying he read this phrase in some psychiatry manual: "The patient was extrapolating profusely everywhere."
