Thread: Lucy's Sketchbook
July 15th, 2014 #1
I'm Lucy. I'm 16 years old, and I'm heading into my senior year of high school. Because I'll be leaving HS soon, I hope to be able to continue on the art path with my future education/job, so I'm trying to improve. I wasted most of the school year and half the summer not drawing as much since I had a bit of a dry spell, so currently I'm trying to make up for that... drawing 4 hours a day minimum woo! Animating, painting, whatever.
Below are some stuff from the beginning-ish of 2014 to just now (not chronologically ordered)-- imho they really vary in quality to the point I think I did the opposite of improving D: Also they're all a mix of photo reference studies/real life observation/and original (you can probably tell which is which), but since there's so many I won't bother differentiating them (which I try to do next time I post... and resize everything next time)
Please leave tips and critiques, thanks!

16?! Gah! There are too many damn young talented people. Also, easytoon for the win!

Haha there's always room for improvement though!
Easytoon is easy for sure! But I still cannot for the love of god use the buttons at the top efficiently T_T I have absolutely no idea what some of them do..
Additionally, this time gesture/things from my head... lotsa mistakes! I should do a detailed real life study next

I absolutely love the movement in your sketches and the animations are just plain AWESOME! The only thing is that I can't tell if a lot of the sketches are ref'd or imagination. Keep working hard and you'll be a pro in no time! Do you plan on being an animator?

Hey Uyeno! I hope you know I made this sketchbook because I saw your stuff!! (Didn't have a conceptart account at the time) It was inspiring because I'm in the same place as when you first made the thread, highschool student with dreams and whatnot. What do you plan on doing, art school and stuff?
As for me, I'm really torn between illustrating and animation. I love pretty paintings but I also love cartoons man T____T so i'm mixing it up right now.
The loose flowy ones are typically from pixelovely/posemaniacs 30 second gestures, so I have to draw them quickly. a lot of the marker ones like post #11 is from my own head.
More imagination gestures

holy moley you're work is incredible and your first drawing blew me away. You have strong figure drawing sketches, some of them need some work, you'll be there in no time ^_^ x

Thank you!! And yep definitely... I have to get better at drawing from imagination! Thanks for the feedback!

WAITWAITWAIT Looking at my stuff made you start this thread??? I feel so honored T_T Is that the word I'm looking for? Anyways I think your imagination stuff is amazing! Even though you might not know how to draw all them muscles on the figure, you sure know how to move it in space which I still have trouble with! I see lots of anime influences especially in your animations! I too have lots of anime influences even If it doesn't show in my style or whatever. Right now I'm not really thinking about going to college because of the money and the fact you can learn anything online nowadays. I'm pretty much the same as you, I love animation but I also adore Illustration! I'm really into like Phil Hale or Ashley Wood kinda illustrations though that evolve around the figure. Your characters are really fun and It's full of expressiveness. Your'e doing awesome!

Yes! I was fumbling around the threads and I came across yours and I just thought 'can I be friends with this person??'. And thank you so much! I'm honored too!! Yeah, I'm definitely influenced by anime... Grew up with it ever since I was a wee toddler- and still it's all I draw mostly. I know we both aspire to be like Kim Jung Gi and Bahi JD haha. The no college thing had been on my mind too. It's only if I can get a really sizeable scholarship- and no extra loans or anything (wishful thinking?), then I'll go to art school. The internet is an amazing resource. And the same for your characters, I love the stylistic faces Your progress is really awesome too! Let's continue to support each other ^^
game wannabe concept thing progress update~ I don't know what I'm doing...
July 25th, 2014 #26
Wow these are all nice! I can't trust myself to critique since I'm not as good with drawing figures... And four hours a day? That's a challenge to me, who spends about two hours spread out over a whole day...
I can see you're inspired by anime. So am I!
July 25th, 2014 #27
Thank you! And as for the four hours, I try my best to hit that quota but sometimes it just doesn't work out haha... damn distractions! Just looking at other people's awesome work can make you lose track you know? I think many people start drawing by being influenced by anime~ I don't regret it though! ^^
