Hi, I'm Francine! I've been lurking on these forums for a bit now and have been impressed with all of the improvement everyone has been making during this workshop. I knew I had to join in, get my hands dirty, and see if I could improve my craft as well.
I chose George Inness' Sunset because I don't typically draw landscapes. I was immediately grasped by his use of emphasis highlighted by the sun's illumination as it falls in the sky. It's central location allows your eye to peacefully rest on the remainder of the piece. I was also taken in by the balance exhibited between the visually heavy hills and trees versus the light sky.
It was an accident that this one was so small and I will correct that mistake on the next study. I was a bit anxious to begin and was not paying attention to the dimensions!
