    CHOW #357 :: Wizard's Apprentice

    CHOW #357 :: Wizard's Apprentice

    Character of the Week #357
    Wizard's Apprentice

    Deadline - Sunday, July 27th 10PM GMT

To become a wizard, one must have the qualities of magic. It doesn't matter how little magic you possess, just the fact that one can control it's force, makes them a candidate. Though, there are no special schools for one to become a wizard. They have to be taught by another, more powerful wizard. Magic users are like unique magnets, and are attracted toward one another. So almost all powerful wizards will eventually find a pupil, because their magic is connected.

This week you are to design an apprentice wizard!

    The Guidelines:
    • Can be male or female
    • Must be Human, elf, dwarf, gnome, orc, or halfling.(no animalkin)
    • Must be casting a spell.
    • Environment Background's permitted this week.
    • Genre is fantasy

    The Rules
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW # and the artists username at the bottom of the image within, at least, a footer bar(TYPED, NOT WRITTEN)
    • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible. No back views are allowed without a front please.
    • Only ONE character please.
    • Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
    • No photograph paint overs, must be 100% original work
    • At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
    • NO ENVIRONMENT BACKGROUNDS! You may use simple shapes, gradients or silhouettes
    • Please read through the thread for any posts made by the mod. They likely answered a question that was asked about the challenge!
    • Have fun!

SHNQBI - I like number 4 the best.

fllamjr - That's a cool take on the character description.

Here's my initial ideas, will likely try and think of some more. I wanted to try and stay away from typical 'wizard' appearance but not go too far and have it not look wizard-y at all...

I've never really done design variations/silhouettes before so this is good for me to try it out!

fllam - Thanks! Pulling from DBZ/Avatar inspiration for those rocks.

Wizo - I like how close the viewer is to the magic, pulls you right into the piece. There's a sense of reverence, or awe.

I haven't done one of the challenge's in a while, is it ok if I use traditional materials?

Hello everybody, It looks like everybody is off to a good start. Here is the direction I am going with but I am not sure which one I like best. Kinda leaning towards the 2nd and the 5th one.

The thread seems to be nicely split between super-pro apprentices and bumbling apprentices so far ^^

It's not much, but my foolish decision to have a running figure in robes has resulted in much time trying to figure out clothing folds :P

    Hey everyone!

Decided to sketch out a quick design for my (Blood)Wizard Apprentice.

Wanted to convey that he was into blood magic and that he is a young practitioner due to him inflicting harm(hence some scars) to himself rather than others for his magic. Also incorporating an aztec and bone motif as he isn't a typical apprentice but one that is channeling and learning from an old master by wearing his remains.

It's still pretty rough but enjoy!

Turned out more of a moody teenager punk orc, more interested in her "phone" than studying. The phone being a crystal ball, maybe a scrying pool, not sure yet.

    Here's my stab at it.
Gotta start out at a young age to learn the complex nuances of wizardry. Wanted to show how difficult it is by giving him burn scars on his face. I'm still debating whether to make him blind (in one eye or both).
