    3 hour self portrait

I about skipped this assignment just so I could jump to the next section and start drawing skulls. Seems like so much more fun.

When I was painting my selfie, one of the thoughts that occurred to me was that the surfaces in the composition should read just like they should as if they were in color and why that is. For example, skin should read as skin, cloth is more diffuse without any specular highlights, eyes are wet and translucent, and hair has a high sheen. Keeping that in mind I went straight in with my values and kept refining until I got to about 3 hours of work. If I was successful, even without color, you guys will look at my portrait and realize I'm a pale ginger.

nice one Rassy. I like your confident stroke and the value can still blend very nicely too. Your observation's really good especially about the surfaces on skin, clothes, etc. That thought never occurred to me before
Can be seen carrying sketchbook around nearby bus station.

Great presence here. The shadows are a little bit dark I think when comparing to the light. Also this piece is way too good to leave chris and the arrow drawn on it. It is a beauty. My friend said..it feels like he is looking at me. So the presence is very strong. Great job.

Thanks for the critique and the compliment Jason! I've uploaded a quick fix where I removed the arrow and brought up the values of the shadows just a bit.
