Some more gesture practice, tried to focus more on the flow than the form, better than my last attempt but I could still improve no doubt.
I did try my hand at gestures from imagination, didn't go so bad actually, I think I've got a nice grip on them considering I have pretty much zero experience with them.

Some more gestures, ref and non ref.
I decided to re do a background for a commission I did a couple or so months ago, it was so bad I couldn't leave it as it was. I feel that I might re do the characters as well at some point, my figures are weak at the moment so we'll see.

The textures and rendering are nice, but I think you need to emphasize the lighting. I'm also confused as to what the light source is in the night scene - moonlight maybe? We should be able to tell based on how the subject is being lit (direction, intensity, color).
Btw your gestures are looking much more effective and interesting, keep it up

There isn't any lighting really, I didn't take into account any while I was doing it haha, I got confused because the figures are from the older piece and don't have any real lighting either, to be honest the whole thing is a mess .
I'm working on a current piece and I'm trying to give it strong lighting from the start. I'm working with fur too, something I have basically zero experience in, struggling with that and lighting together at the moment.

Why describe your current project when you can just show us? Are you using a reference for the lighting or fur? Also, if you're struggling with the fur texture, you can do a separate study to practice and develop a process for building up the texture, then apply that to your current piece.

Hahaha I wanted to post it at the time but I was ashamed at what a mess it was, it was all back to front from sketch to linework to painting then no linework then more painting then throwing things at the wall then sadness.. bleh.
But I've used a couple of really good fur tutorials to get a better grip, still lacking the right texture but I feel the form of the hair isn't too bad considering. Here is the current iteration plus an older one from around the time of my previous post:
I marked out where I want the light to be in the first one, I did the fur before I marked the lighting so I need to go back and change that, I'm unsure how much though :/ Art y u so hard.

A small update on this piece. The anatomy wasn't working, the perspective was weird on HIS right arm and I couldn't get it right, I'm sure it's still messed up now.
Also I was/am confused on what to do for his chest as lizards have a rather.. uninspiring chest, still messing about with it at this point.

I don't mind the arms, but the back leg feels a bit weird to me in relation to the rock he's lying on. Btw, it might be helpful to make a simple model of the creature - that could help you with the perspective and it would also make a great reference for the lighting stage.

I've decided to scrap the whole thing and start again after some good advice from a friend. I jumped the gun on this without doing thumbnails and such haha. I've got a thread in the crit section but it's not getting much feedback

Hey dude, thanks for dropping by.
Yeah, I have to admit, heads scare me Got to face my fears though and I'm not going to do that by avoiding it!
I know about Loomis and pretty much every other method but thank you for the mention anyway
I decided you do a linework piece based heavily on a sketch by Stephen oakley and then colour it (the scary fairy is the piece), also a weird monster thing with saggy titties.

Love your icons, and specially the last piece, what is it anyway?!
Some kinda goblin jumping out of a glass, love the sketches from the
girl. Did you do that from imagination or some kinda photo ref. page!
Maan I can't find this page anymore, think it's calle something like
lovecastle.org or so but not sure anymore, if I google that I really
put my system in danger cause of danger sites and viruses !!!

Some of the gestures in 241 have nice mass, I like it! If the anatomy studies are overwhelming you should try doing a page of, for example forearms only.

Iven: Thank you! The last piece is a Daily sketch group topic (created by moi) and it's called 'When fruit attacks'; the concept is the fruit that is being used for still life comes to life and attacks the artist painting it
Gibier: Thanks dude, I'm getting comfortable with anatomy, currently learning the large muscle groups (back, front, upper arms). I'm doing the paint over thing, where you take a picture of a person and then try and match the muscles, see below!
I also did a crit for a friend and found that it was really fun to do, think I might do this more as it helps me learn as well.
